3.4 Rebuild Questions

Now it is confirmed that that my 3.4 is dying i've decided to do a rebuild it myself, i like a challenge!

I have a list of parts/tools i need of which most are on order but i need a little help with a few parts.

Are the head bolts and con rod bolts reuseable? - in previous engine builds i have done (EU Fords/Peugeots) they should always be replaced but i cant find any info on this.

Also, should the crank cases and cylinder heads be skimmed prior to assembly? - i dont know if the Porsche heads are already on the limits or not.

Head bolts and rods bolts are not reuseable. Are you planning on using LN engineering Nikkies? Take a look on rennlist.com for Logray's threads on his rebuild. It is a great resource.

Heads & crank cases should be checked for flatness & resurfaced as needed. Heads should be pressure tested for cracks.
Rod bolts should be replaced with ARP bolts.

Does anyone know if the crank cases come as a matched pair? - i have managed to find a good used crank case cyl 4-6 but before i purcahse i need to know if i can bolt up to my existing cyl 1-3 half? -obviously after a clean and check for flatness/resurface.

i cant find any info on this. I wouldnt usually go down this route but time is if the essence to get this repaired and i cant wait 3-4 weeks for the machine work in the UK for a new liner.

Crankcases, like cylinder head & cam covers are machined together to be mates for life so it's not ideal. Porsche will not sell a cam cover without the head to go with it. I don't know if Porsche sells case halves seperatly but if they do that might be a good clue of your chance of finding a good mate. There is a good chance that several of your cylinders have excessive wear so it is better to resleeve all of them. You can add displacement too!
