HELP...groceries stuck in trunk
HELP...groceries stuck in trunk
I've got a 2001 996 and my front trunk is not giving in this time. Sometimes I hear a click and sound, sometimes not. But, need to get those fricken groceries out before I have a mess on my hands. Do you think it is the power source or bad release mechanism? Advice please and thanks.
you should have fixed it instead of letting it slide. duh...
since the car starts up fine, i doubt it's a power issue. most likely the switch has failed. visit your dealer. as for the manual release, i think you have to remove the wheel liner. not easy

Here is a reply about a similar problem:
There is an emergency cable pull that is located behind the passenger side headlight. With a little effort you can pull back the wheel liner on that side and get to the cable. Some folks (like me) have relocated their cable so it can be reached by popping off the front bumper tow plug. To do this relocation you have to take the front bumper off (or already have it off... like to clean the radiators, or install the 3rd radiator, etc.)

When I got home after running some more errands it just opened as if nothing ever was wrong. Arghh. Anyway, yes...probably bad switch. Glad it did not happen at the airport!
I'm ordering a switch ASAP. Oh, and thanks for the note on fixing before letting it slide...HA. Sounds like something I'd say to my wife...touche'.

Still glitching
Had the front latch replaced and this sucker is still glitching....only opens when it wants to. Any ideas on what else it may be besides the front latch?
Brother, take it to your dealer and have it fixed. Very simple technology which I'm sure they will fix quickly.

IMO it would seem like you have a short somewhere. Just take some time and visit the stealer or an indy. Should be an easy fix.
LOL....the groceries were saved.
Yes, must be a short, but where to start. The dealer did install the trunk switch and said it worked flawlessly when tested. I believe them as this thing has a mind/ timing of its own. Very strange. Anyway, I'll keep you all posted, but until this thing is fixed I won't be putting ice cream up front!

You need to check the solenoid. Mine would sporadically stop working. Seemed to be related to the heat. Once it sat for awhile it would pop open. It located in the Frunk on the drIvers side under the carpet. It's was a 5 min job to replace. Took care of my problem.
That is exactly like mine. Popped right open this AM when it was cool. Thank you SOOO much and that is another reason these forums are great. Who knew? Obviously no one else mentioned this. Thanks and good work.
