"Aggressive" Pricing on '03 TTs?

My dealer called me today to see if I was interested in an '03 Carrera. In my opinion, I don't think that the '03s are that much different than my 99, so I said no thanks.

I did then say that my next car would be a used TT, probably next year. Of course, to which they stated that they have 3 TT Coupes on the lot, and want to try to move one before the end of month.

I've been a big proponent of used car buying through certified cars programs, but they are telling me that they will get VERY aggressive on an '03 and will call back tomorrow with some ideas.

What is a good start on Very Aggressive for those of you who have been down this road? Is $20k off impossible? (Just for frame of reference).

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, The 03 carrera and turbo market at this stage are 2 different ballgames for the dealer, 20k off a turbo just isnt going to happen, the dealers arent under much pressure with 03 turbos due to the fact that 04 turbo production for coupes has been cut so dramically, so they will be able to find homes for these cars without a problem, the 03 carreras will be discounted strongly though.

Doubt Porsche has cash on the hood or in the trunk for '03 Turbos, esp with only 84 Turbo coupes for all of US for '04 . The only way you'd get one below invoice is if they take your old car in for trade or make a lot on their cut on financing your Turbo.

there are 2 2003 turbos in the back of Autoweek with like 3k miles each for $20K+ off sticker (and that's the pre-negotiation asking price) plus no gas guzzler tax, destination charge or sales tax on the $20k+. if they won't, it would appear you have options.

I think 20,000 might be possible. Give it a try. What do you have to lose? When the tables are turned, they have no problem demanding over list.

I assume your advice is to eventually pay over invoice. Like I said, if there isn't a hidden hold back, why should dealer sell below cost ( assuming invoice is true cost ), since he has to absorb flooring charge if it's been in stock for awhile. He's not running a charity. Reg 996 coupes are a commodity item now, but the TT '03 coupe is protected by limited '04 prod.

for the same reason they sold em for $50k OVER when they could - cause it was the market. the market now is more like $20k under. people can pick up 01s in the $80s all day long. there are slightly used, gas guzzler taxless, 03s abundantly available for "asking" prices of $20K+ below sticker.

Invoice is 86% or so of MSRP, so a loaded up new '03 with 135-144 MSRP at 20K off may still be at or above invoice. I saw an '03 X50 with PCCB/ aero/ lots of interior upgrades with a 155K msrp a few months ago .

Keep in mind that some flooring companies require the dealership to pay for the car in full after it has sat on the lot for a while. If this is the case, they will do whatever they have to do to unload the car and free up those dollars. Those dollars will floor multiple new cars instead of being tied up in one car that has not sold for a while...

I'd start at 20K off and go from there... Why not?
