Turbo for 996

Anyone add a turbo to their 996? I'm planning to do so, adds approx. 100 hp to the output so I am told. What is your experience?

There are lots of stories of people doing it. It does add lots of HP. However, most people (me included) believe that you're better off buying a 996 turbo as opposed to adding a turbo to a normally aspirated car. It's a ~$10,000 upgrade on a car worth ~$20,000.

I bought the car new and it's in perfect condition. I have 60k miles on the odo. Don't know what I will get buying used turbo. Thats why I'm leaning to the add-on.
Do you know of any horror stories?
Thanks

This is one of the few cases where it might actually make sense to go aftermarket.

Right now, you basically have two choices: TPC Racing or Vivid Racing.

Do a search on them and you will come across a few users of each variety.

I have also been looking into turbo-charging the NA engines, however, I highly doubt it would pass CA smog. Also, questions about the reliability...

We are a retailer and manufacture but do not have a dealer network like that. If you would like to tell us what shops you are interested in working with, we can help do some due diligence to make sure they are competent.

There are many tuners located in the northeast. I know of a few here on LI.

Do you have any issue with shifting since the rpm climbs so quickly (I assume).

If you decide to install a forced induction system, maybe you should consider a super charger also. I'm not sure if there are currently any available for the 996, but I know some automotive tuners prefer them to turbos because of easier installation, no turbo lag, etc. it might be worth investigating.

for a 996
Turbo: TPC(single), Vivid(single), IMA(twin)
Supercharger: Ruf, VFE. EVOMS(discont.), TPC(discont.)

It seems like TPC has the most amount of 996's turbo kits running on the streets.
EVOMS use to have a supercharger through VFE but I believe they no longer carry superchargers.
Do you research...call them up....PM guys with any of these kits for feedback. I've been researching for the past few years now and still haven't been able to decide...

I previously had a VF supercharger system on my car and just recently had a TPC turbo installed. The turbo is definitely faster. A lot more low end torque. The VF kit was no slouch either. Very different feel between the two. With the supercharger the power curve felt like the stock motor just more powerful. The turbo feels like there is a V8 sitting behind you.
