I have alway had traditional cars - and because of that I always think 3000 miles or 1 time a year - but now I'm think about a spin on filter instead of the paper Porsche filter - which if I have read correctly isn't filtering all the oil. So do I go spin on? I think that paper though gonna be easier to see metal if I have an IMSB problem. Your opinion?

I had the LNE spin on adapter installed and it uses the NAPA Gold filter which is not paper it's a synthetic filiment, IMO this is the way to go. I'll change the oil every 3k-4k or every 6 months, which ever comes first. Since it's not my DD the 6 month interval will most likely come first, and just because the oil does't have miles on it doesn't mean it doesn't need to be changed.
Oh, on the LNE, the bypass still works but only if the filter becomes clogged.

I too use the LN Engineering spin on adaptor and the Napa Gold. I just recently bought the Amsoil filter for this, which is supposed to be even better by a smidgeon. I've only gone to 3,000 miles, but am planning on going to 5,000 on my change with more summer driving. I've done oil analysis twice and both were great.

You can buy a filter cutter for not too much if you want to open to check IMS. You'd save easy that much on cheaper, better filters if you did the LN adaptor. Good luck.

I change at 5k and cut filter open to verify. I'm going to spin on filter at next interval (about 2,500 miles away).

I did an oil change about 2 weeks ago and converted to the spin on. From all the research I did, it seemed like the better way to go. The parts were extremely well built and install was a breeze. Like most others, I change the oil every 5k miles.

Every 4,000 to 5,000 miles with the stock Porsche oil filter.

3000 was for conventional oil, synthetic oil easily lasts 5,000miles, so every 5K miles with CastrolEdge synthetic 10w-40 & a Wix spin-on filter. Napa filters are made by Wix. I put a 3" Filter-Mag on the side of the filter to trap any metal where I want it to stay & also have a LN magnetic drainplug to check for metal while changing oil. I have a LN IMS bearing & rebuilt 3.6 engine so I don't worry about checking the filter.

My oil is changed per Porsche guidelines. Every 5,000 (or less) miles or once a year. My dealer installs a Porsche approved filter when they change the oil (I don't look at the filter). It is whatever they install.

if the spin on filter is so good, why didn't porsche keep using it?

i dont see the need for a "better" filter since the stock setup works well and the oil barely gets dirty anyways.

More environmentally friendly, metal does not biodegrade, cheaper to make.

I use Porsche filters and change mine every 5,000 miles.

I'm not going to tell you which oil I use, because that would open up a can of worms! I will tell you that it's not on the official list of Porsche approved oils...
