Ims
We all concern ourselves with a new IMS bearing. I plan to do a clutch this winter on my Carrera and while I have the transmission out I will do the RMS and the IMS. If after another 100,000 KM I need to pull the engine and transmission out then I will do the RMS and IMS again. Even the after market IMS will wear out. ALL bearings are subject to blowing up and this is a good time to do all 3 procedures. YES/NO?? What are your comments
When I rebuild a engine I send the IMS to LN for them to install their best Triple row ceramic IMS bearing. Best installation + best bearing = no need to replace ever.

If you're in there already it can't hurt. With that said, I've owned four 996s and one 986 and had zero issues. It can happen, but it's a rare event that has been overblown by forums and magazines. Let's face it, many people are looking for reasons to dislike the 996.
Hey Matt
Thanks for the info. I really appreciate the last statement. I agree with you. All the people I talk to only know of someone with an IMS issue, they have never had an IMS issue themselves. I like my car and sometimes I get the message I shouldn't.
I do need a clutch and while I am in there......

I see it as peace of mind. If you actively worry about your car eventually you'll begin to dislike it, won't trust it, and sell it. Or spend an extra $600-ish while your engine is out already and you'll never worry again. Personally I never worried, so I never bothered with the IMS. Internet forums are a huge benefit for car enthusiasts, especially if you DIY, but can also have the negative side effect of blowing rare issues out of proportion.
