Hi guys.

Well I finally found a 911 Cab C4 that was in nice shape but it did not have a hard top. I want to drive it this winter and was wondering if the hard top makes a big difference? I found one for $500.00 and figured it's probably worth it but just thought Id ask those of you that driven both ways. Im in Canada and where I live the winters are long, cold and lots of snow. Also. I see on the dash that it has a switch for the rear defroster so I am assuing that the hard top has a wire or something that comes off of it and that there will be some sort of wire from the car that goes to the hard top? I also assume that the hard top will mount on any car? Mine is a 2000 and the top that I can buy is off a 2001.

Yes! And I only have to deal with rain. But for the cold and especially snow the hard top is a great option. The rear defroster wiring is part of the actual mounting posts so no extra wiring is needed. There are two different styles of post mounting (screw vs twist pin) but since both of the cars are 2001 or older they should have the same type.

 

The hardtop is wonderful. For me, it's like having two different cars. I love my Cabriolet and I only run the hardtop on for a few weeks at a time a couple of times a year. Mine was factory included and I really enjoy it. At $500 that's a steal if you buy it.

 

i can't stand the way the hard top looks. it looks like a turtle shell.

it is useful in your case though. there is defrosting but it takes 2 people to put it on and off the car. if you have the garage space to store the top, get it as you'll extend the life of the softop easily.

for those of us that only deal with occasionally snow or none at all, i don't see the point. i didn't opt for the hard top and just use a car cover when i had to park outside.

 

I put a $50 electric winch in my garage from Harbor Freight and put the HT on and off myself. I really enjoy the hardtop for the winter. Quieter. Easier to wash during a time when the car gets dirty if you use it. I bought mine to drive.

 

Worth every penny. I like to take it out in the winter on good days and even on a first snow. The C4 is great in the snow. Less road noise too.
