Poor quality B&M undercar SSK

I have a 03 C4S. I ordered a B&M undercar SSK and installed it. It should have been a 30 minutes install turned into a 2 hours install. The new bracket that came with the kit bolts in fine but the slot that the cable hold slides into is just a tad too small at the opening. Made me break the plastic tabs that holds the cable hold in the bracket after forcing it in. The metal one just refuse to go in. I decided to use a caliper to measure it. The opening is too small!! I have to use tie strap to temperarily hold the plastic one in place and grind the bottom one bigger. Then it slides right in and lock into place.

After everything is finished, I noticed that the weights will hit the bracket. That means whenever I used 2,4,6th the weight will hit. As a perfectiionist, I decided to grind a dent into the bracket.

1. I like to find out if anyone else has ran into this?
2. Can the cable hold be replaced? Does anyone have part number?
3. My shifter is too far to the right. Does anyone know how to adjust it.

Thanks

Alex.

Alex,

What is the B&M part # on the box?
I have installed many of these on turbo's without a hiccup, turbo part # is 45183, no fitment problems at all
something is seriously wrong
The '03 C4S also takes the same part #

Ron

dood, should have sent that back, why fight it when you know it's not right? I doubt they would replace it now once it's been ground.

I think it's just fault in manufacturing

If someone else install them, they won't care if something hits when your using it. Like I said, I'm just a perfectionist. The bracket in the picture in the instruction has a similar opening to the factory one. It flares out at the mouth. The one I got is straight. I think the boxter unit will not have this problem because the cable holder should be the same as our car.

Too late when I notice

By the time I realize that it's the wrong size. I already forced the plastic one in. I might do more damage on the way out. It won't fit back on the factory bracket. That means I won't have a car to drive. So I wanted to have a replacement part before I do anything else. I figure it was a little bit of grinding anyway. So I ground away 2 little tabs at the mouth.

That's when I realize the touching thing. I also thought it touches just a little. Not knowing little by little, Had to ground away a whole bunch.

Sucks

alex - i'd let B&M know(or their authorized dealer who you bought it from) and tell them that you had to go ahead and complete the install since you needed to use your car. tell them you think it's a mfr error and would be happy to send it back so they could check it for product quality issues but that you'd like a "good" one.

if you're nice about it and explain the situation fully, i'd bet they'd ship you out another one and may even send you a prepaid UPS/FedEx label to return the defective one

it wouldn't hurt to ask...

Lizard and Viper are right on. Looks like they missed on the bracket. Should not have gone like that at all.

Call them. They are pretty good about this stuff and should be able to square up with you.

That is a very old box, looks like it's been around the block
I have not seen the under car kit come in that box in a very long time, usually it is a very small white box
You may have ended up with a mismatched kit or the wrong bracket
B&M has good customer service, I think they will help you on this
