Sudden Clutch Feel Change - Advice Wanted

Hello All,

I had something rather alarming happen today. I was making a sprint up to about 70mph, and when I came off the gas and shifted into high hear I immediately noticed a change in the clutch feel in the car.

It feels... Softer. Almost as if it is a more pedestrian car. I have not noticed any slip, but the pedal feels a lot softer. I actually was able to shift the car a bit smoother in traffic.

I've been searching high and low for a similar post but I haven't seen one. Some people immediately notice a change in clutch engagement, or simply that the clutch is slipping.

I didn't notice either of these. The car seems to go in and out of gear easier than before, and there is less feel in the clutch pedal.

The easier gear changes might be because the car was nice and warmed up at that point. I will know in the morning I guess.

The clutch kit has less than 10k miles on it. I didn't smell clutch afterward when the car was warm, or afterward when I took the car out for groceries.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I am guessing your clutch cable slipped a bit, and self adjusted in your favor. Just my three cents (inflation) Good luck.

Of all the other sites I've read, this post wins for the best possible outcome category! haha.

The car drove fine today. Heavy clutch, gear change the same as always. I guess we can pretty much eliminate catastrophic failures... I hope

I've experienced something similiar, not in my 996, but in my Z06. It only happens when I'm accelerating hard, going thru the gears. The clutch pedal will get "soft" feel like it engages earlier. I've checked some Corvette forums and others are saying something about the clutch fluid heating up or that a heavier duty clutch is needed. I occasionally replace my clutch fluid in my Corvette when it starts to get "dirty". After I'm done the clutch is much smoother. I haven't heard about changing clutch fluid in the Porsche but I'm inclined that it shouldn't hurt.

Probably the clutch helper spring. It's very common for them to go out. You may begin to hear some crunching sounds as it disintegrates in the shaft. Not too terribly expensive to replace. Kinda requires a double jointed arm if you try to do it yourself.

On the clutch pedal arm. #5 on the diagram. Mine is broken, yet functional. It squeaks intermittently. I'll get around to fixing it when I am in the mood to be upside down, and cramped like a polar bear in a bird cage.
