replacement tire dilema

I just picked up an 02 cab with michelin pilot sport ps2 n3 on all four corners.

The problem is the rears have about 5-6/32nds and are 4 years old, but the fronts are 9 years old.
I want to buy the sumitomo htrzIII for all four corners but really would like to get the remaining life out of the rears but replace the fronts.

here are the scenarios;

-keep the rear ps2 and buy htrz III for the fronts, not sure if the two different treads would react differently. cost ~$300

-keep the rear p2s and buy used ps2 for the front. The problem is trying to find them and making sure they don't cost more than what i would pay for new htrz III. cost? i was hoping for around $100-150 installed

-replace all four with htrz III and sell the rears. cost~ $620

Normally i would never have this many years on my tires so i am in a
pickle.

What would you do?

Ok,
I would think the fronts are way past servicable life, 9 years old is not good. The rears are about at the end of lifespan as 5 years is about what it is. Buying used for a car like this is not a good idea.
I would say replace all 4 tires and start new, get an alignment and have them set the rear toe out to neutral. As normal you will go through 2 sets of rears for every set of fronts, never mix brands.
You may also want to look at the Kumho, tire rack has excellent pricing so take their priceing with you as abarganing chip.

Had the same issue with worn out contis in the back, good but old ones in the front. Went with sumis for the back and the car was not happy. Quickly replaced the fronts with sumis and everything is good again.

Replace all four tires. Even if they do have a few good 32nds tread depth left, for the cost of two PS2's you can do a set of new, fresh HTR Z III's. The car will handle better with four like tires.

Please give me a call if you'd like to order. Thanks.

Replace all 4. The cost saved now won't mitigate the bad driving experience, or the risk you'll run on 9 year old tires.

+1 FLA996TT. Better to replace all four tires due to their age and tread wear.

how much will it cost to fix damages to your car if tires give out at speed? and hopefully you're not injured if/when that happens. very quickly becomes a no-brainer choice to buy 4 new tires as already pointed out by many. my 2 cents.

Replacing all four was what i was thinking. When i first purchased my boxster, i had two different tires on the front and rear and it was hard to handle on the highway.

The cheap part of me was hoping to use up the rears, but know what i need to do.

thanks for the kick in *** and bringing me back to reality.

I agree with the suggestions to replace all four tires.

I tried The Sumitomo HTR ZIII and I wasn't happy. I won't buy them again.

I'm hearing great things about Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Bump on the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, I have heard nothing but good things. I am waiting for Michelin to get their act together on the wide body sizes though!!!
