Unhappy C4S LED taillights.....can anyone now help

Having checked in to see how the thread was going about a group of us getting together to see if we can get some LED taillights for the C4S 996, I've spent nearly an hour going round in circles through numerous threads with no simple answer.

Can someone point me to a company or person that might actually be making these rather than checking out every site that then seems to have a small comment saying "not for widebody" or "not for turbo" or "not for C4S"!!!!

Someone started a group buy on these in the turbo forum. I think they needed to get something like 250 people to have the company make them.

I feel that to have a cohesive look, you'd have to modify the horizontal bar across the engine cover as well, or you'd run the risk of having visually different surfaces from LED tail light to the reflector.

One issue would be depth; could that piece even be modified to work with LEDs?

Delreycustoms.com has led taillights for the widebody in 3 different versions for $835 a pair including a harness.

The look great, really updates the look of the car. Personally i'm struggling as i can't decide on whether to go for red smoke or clear on my silver c4s, thoughts on this?

Can i ask why you bought these from Delray (USA) when Design 911 (UK based retailer) is also selling them?

I think smoked looks good on silver cars not so much on dark colors (except for black) I went clear on my Lapis (dark) Blue.

Will you add a few pics, rear and corner/side profile might be nice?

You can look at it two ways: dated or classic. There's no right or wrong choice here; you should look at it however you like. Personally, I love the look of the OE 996 C4S rear end. The integration of the reflector strip to the lower red portion of the OE tail lights looks fantastic. It pays homage to the reflector strip found on 993s and older Porsches. If I still had my 996, I would not be "upgrading" to these LED tail lights.

One way to install these lights and try to integrate them with the original Porsche design would be to install the smoked version and then have the reflector strip smoked/tinted to match.

Happy to but I'm currently travelling so I'll do this over the weekend. For now, you can see them here on this Rennlist thread:http://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum...l#post12079758

Note that mine is not a C4S but the colour combination might help you. As Dennis C says, on the C4S the 996 style lights line up with the reflector strip. I agree that it would look odd to go with a light that does not do the same.

+1
This new LED light, the middle clear blinker just doesn't flows with the decklid line. See how it drops a little lower. It still look nice, don't get me wrong. Pic2...IMO would look better if they ever make it for the C4S.
Of course I don't have a C4S so I guess my vote don't count.

Appreciate your take on it Dennis. I went out to the garage and looked at my car. You're right about needing to tint the strip to make it flow. I may pass on this. After looking at mine...it does look more "classic" than "dated".

When we had an opportunity to formally vote on the style for these lights before they were produced, I voted for the style in pic number 2. I was significantly outnumbered by 996 turbo owners who wanted something more similar to the 997 LEDs.
