997 Side mirrors on my 996 :-)

Just sharing guys. Got these 997 mirror assemblies off ebay. You have to take out the whole inner souls of your orig mirror assemblies and transfer most of it to the new 997 SM housing. It was 2 days work for me (being slow, careful and not really experienced). They do everything the orig mirror does (including fold forward and fold backward) except they look better...well at least for me they do.

Any Pics of install and breakdown of mirrors? Did you drill holes on door/mirror bracket?

Better, there's actually a video! I just followed this (just don't mind the techno music :-))

PART1

PART 2

I actually viewed these videos first before deciding to purchase the side mirror upgrade kits or not. I think I did a pretty good job following instructions. Not to many broken old plastic clips and locks ;-)

NO drilled holes on door/mirror brackets. The new mirror assemblies will bolt on to your old/original holes without modifications becasue you're using the same original mounts. Basically, you just transfer the mirror motors, witings and mirror to the new 997 housings then you bolt them back on.

The most difficult part is compressing the side mirror spring, but the kit includes a spring compressor tool so no problem. Just mark the center of the c-clip to know exactly where you're gonna pull it out.

Did I mention that the angle of these mirrors are better than the old ones? I feel that I see much better on both left and right sides ;-) Maybe an illusion but I really like them.

I'll take pictures when I get home this afternoon...

@Holdem - look for Jeffrey, he's like a help desk after sales service. Answers queries even if you already bought the item. Let him know people talk about them in forums so that he'll continue doing a good job to the forum community :-)

How much were the housings? I replaced both mine a few years back, as I was getting a new bumper installed, and the cost to spray the new housings at the same time as the bumper was only $50 extra. Wish this was avaialble then, I agree, the 997 mirrors look better. The actual Porsche 996 housings were pretty cheap, I was surprised, I think < $50 each.
