Moonroof Issue

My moonroof on my 03 996 C4S has started not working properly. It opens a little slow and closes much slower and sometimes doesn't fully close. It doesn't always auto open...Meaning I have to hold my finger on the button, and it will not auto close. Sometimes it doesn't open or close at all. Anyone know what it could be? Very expensive to fix?

Have you cleaned and greased the track? Also the joints on things like the pop-up spoiler? Use some degreaser / penetrating oil / kerosene to clean everything off (being careful to wet the rag or paper towel so none runs down inside the roof) and then put new grease on the tracks and oil on the joints. Make sure everything is clean and dry before putting the grease or oil on. A toothbrush and some q-tips are a couple of key tools in addition to paper towels and/or rags to help clean, and the q-tips are perfect for putting grease back on.

I've had similar problems with both of my 996, and cleaning things up usually clears up the problems.

Try to reset the sunroof by holding down the rocker switch in the "close" position for ten seconds with the sunroof already closed. Keep the button depressed as it cycles through opening and closing. Between that and/or disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes fixed mine a few times. Lubing never helped. Eventually I had to have the switch and motor replaced when it started making excessive noise and wasn't operating consistently.
