How to drive my porsche??
I'm new to the Porsche world. Just bought a 99 C2. I know that you are supposed to keep the rpms up while driving. When you are on the freeway, when would you normally shift to sixth gear. Do you normally run it up to 3-4K before shifting around town??
THX.

I think the whole "keep your rpms up" thing is a myth that started in the 70s. Heard it from my indy (BIIGG porsche guy), who said the modern cars don't need you to drive with your rpms so high
I generally go old school, just by the sound before shifting gears :-)
Drive it however you want. It's not going to explode or anything as long as it's maintained properly. The 99's have the dual row IMS bearings and are, according to Porsche, having failure rates "far less than 1%" It's somewhere around 0.4%, so drive on without worries. It's a solid engine.
Like you stole it
Personally I drive mine like I stole it most of the time got to get up past at least 3100rpm so the PSE can start singing. Remember your driving a sports car whose heritage is track based high revving engine thrives on being used.
I invested on the maintenence....
And look forward to the day I am using it...
100 MPH is usual driving speed for me (on Highways, not crowded, and looking out for speed traps).....
Enjoy this thing man!

Like said, drive it the way you want. Me..I shift between 3500 and 6k depending on what gear I'm in, and do "spirited" street driving. So you have to drive in a way you are comfortable, it's your car. I know plenty of people who just drive it and never push it and visa-versa.
Drive it like you stole it. Or, drive it however you have the most fun. These cars are meant to be driven and driven fast. Of course you don't want to be driving around at 6k rpm constantly, but there's no set point where to shift.
I've been driving manuals for about 25 years, and the "sweet spot" for upshifting where you don't lose too much power is usually around 3k rpm, including in my different Porsches. That's on fairly level ground. On hills, that's usually 4k rpm. If I'm doing spirited driving, it's often 5-6k rpm.

Drive it the way it was meant to be driven......spirited, but drive responsible too. You don't want to be the Porsche driver who drives unsafely giving other Porsche drivers a bad name.
Holy crap, you drive 160km/h? Must not be in ontario LOL, you'd get your car towed instantly.
That's easy for me too as Florida highways are long and straight. Nothing new here, many sports car owners go early in the morning and open them up a little. I was doing 110 mph and actually had a State Trooper pull next to me and over the loud spearker say "I need you to slow it down a little" so I took it down to 80 and he rolled on by.

!).So, I drive to work (4 days a week) 155 km each way (~100 miles). It is mostly highway. 4 lanes on each sides. 3 or 4 speed cameras and couple of speed traps. Mostly predictable. Also, people coming from opposite side indicate and tell you if you are approaching a camera or trap.
So the days which are clear, I drive the P car. On other days (dust storms .. etc) it is my SUV that takes the hit.
