How many times have you hit the rev limiter?
I was running last night and I hit the rev limiter in 2nd gear and it got me to thinking about the limiter and its function.
I have heard people suggest that they would check the ODB port to determine how many times the rev limiter has been hit before they would buy a used car or that the dealer might use the info to determine warranty eligibility.
That doesn't make sense to me. The rev limiter is a protective function that prevents over revs which could damamge the engine. Why would hitting the rev limiter mean anything?
How many times do you think you have hit the limiter? I estimate I have hit it 8-10 times over the course of the last year. How about you and are you concerned about it?

I hit it a few times.
I knew I was close some of those times, but I've also hit it by total surprise a few times. THAT'S wierd.

I have never hit it on a down shift of course, that would be bad.
I am pleased to hear I am not the only one. I consider it a mistake and am trying to improve my sense of aural feedback to determine when I am getting close to redline.
I have heard of people who consider Stage 1 over revs a negative but I think they are misinformed.
Thanks for the feedback.

I LOVE these Porsche engines....in other cars I have had, I could sense when to shift by the way the engine lost acceleration...in those cars I NEVER hit the redline to know if there was a rev limiter...lol...now, this thing will pull right to redline and hard....I love it...I used to bounce off the limiter once a day..but now, I pretty much have it down as to where I am in the RPM's....but if my radio is up loud..sometimes I may hit it....a few times I have driven home in 3rd...lol....Reminds me of my Ninja sportbike with a 14K redline and it screamed all the way there....clutchless shifting and front wheel lifting....those were the days.....
I hit redline too easy in 1st now with the SC, but in second you are going so fast that you feel you have to shift sooner. I shift at 7000 but it always passes on the tach to about 7200 during the shift. When I first was doing passes with my GT Pro I had a heck of a time staying off the rev limiter. Remember the Vortec SC builts the most torque and Hp at 7000 so you need to push it there every shift to get max performance. Will
