Question 996 clamshell motor

Hello everyone. I recently replaced the clamshell motor with the redesigned one.
At the cost of $600.00 it was not fun.installing was easy but I had to have it calibrated. That was $500.00. Now it's not working again. The motor runs but I think the pinion disengaged. Has anyone else encountered this. If so how did you fix it?

Instead of you asking that question, shouldn't you be returning the car too who ever installed the clam shell motor or returning the motor to where ever you bought it or to ever calibrated the movement? Is that only your guess that the motor disengaged from the pinion? Sounds like you or your mechanic are experimenting on fixing a hood movement problem and paying through the nose in an effort to solve the problem. $500 to calibrate something. Ridiculous. I mean you replaced a working clam shell motor for a redesigned motor which had to be calibrated does not make any sense to me. They will suck you dry because they know you don't know anything about the workings of a cabriolet top.

Well sir,the motor I bought from the dealer.I installed it myself.theres a plastic pinion that pops out because of tension. I rebuilt the car myself except for transmission. Maybe your an expert an all things Porsche, but that's the first time I've had to take it anywhere for repair. All I need to know is the value to put on the potentiometer located on the clamshell motor. The original motor was burned out,do you know how to test motors? I do.

The motor turns a spline and a square drive, but only if the square drive shaft is located correctly, axially. If it is too high, the spline will rotate, but the square drive remains stationary, so you must have this square drive shaft located fairly accurately along its axis. I don't know the correct procedure in setting it up (that is one reason why I am visiting this particular thread). From threads on the Pelican Parts site, I understand that you need to set the potentiometer to around 6.2KOhms when the clamshell is open.

I'm sure there is a written procedure somewhere and I'm desperately seeking that document! ....good luck!

Go search RennTech. You cannot just tighten down fully the engagement on the motor, the action will be wrong. It has been too long to recall off top of the head but check renntech
