Rear main seal on '03 C2

Well, after 1000 miles I have the famous leaking rear main seal on my '03 C2. The dealer was surprised, they haven't seen any 03s with this problem yet. So I guess Porsche hasn't figured this out still.

Anyone else had this happen on an 03?

I'm not that upset by it really. The car is so much fun, this kind of stuff is just a minor annoyance. Plus I'm spending some quality time with a Cayenne and I'm seriously interested in that now.

My 03 did this as well....developed at around 8000 miles for me.

I do wonder if we will ever see a fix for this...

Anyone heard of a GT3 with a leaky RMS?

After they fixed it, did it happen again?

It's only been about six weeks since the fix...give me another month or so... But so far, so good.

The GT3 engine is a very different animal than the standard Carrera engine. Not to say that it would never have any problems, but it is more of a proven design.

Nova, this happened at 1000 miles? So you are not even done with break in? You've got me worried about my 03 now. I have 2200 miles so far....

Some cars get it, others do not. My 2/98 build 996 still had the original RMS when I traded it two months ago with 22,000 miles.

Yeah, so I've heard, which is why I stated that. I think I am going to need to get a GT3 just so I can have a Porsche that doesn't leak!!

Yep, it probably started at about 800-900 miles. So far I don't think it's really a big deal. If it leaks again soon, then I'll be worried.
