Shifter

Dog, When Vipertesterossa had has TT I believe he was running both short shifters together. Might be worth sending him a PM.

I'm not looking to run both at the same time. Just shorten the throw a bit and crispen up the shifts.

I'm curious as to what the difference is in "feel" between the in car and undercar.

The B&M short shifter is very nice. Not to short for everyday driving, but it makes the throws more crisp and more solid feeling that is you have the right guy adjusting the cabels.

My 2000 carrera had the B&M in car shifter. My turbo has the B&M under car shifter. I prefer the undercar shifter. Shifts smoother, less notchy. When the transmission oil is cold, it shifts are harder with the in car B&M. I do not know about the oem short shift kit. I believe it is similar to the B&M in car shifter?

The top short shift is very notchy feeling whereas the bottom short shift retains the smoothness of the stock feeling just shorter....i suggest you drive the top one some people don't like the notchiness

Viper:

What is the advantage to running both? I know both kits max out at 30%. Does that mean by running both you reduce throw by 60%?

Is there any mechanical advantage to running either one since they both do the same thing? The in car is more expensive and seems to replace more components. I have been told that the in car has sturdier parts than the OEM shifter, however I haven't heard of anyone wearing out their OEM shifter.

I wish I could drive them back to back, but I don't know anyone with these kits.

With regards to the in car's notchiness, why would someone choose the in car over the under car, since the under is less expensive, easier to install, and retains stock feel? What does the in car offer the under car?

Also, I've heard that it's all about the install with regards to the in car. Is it possible that the cables weren't adjusted properly, resulting in the notchiness?

I've read that running both is great for really short shifts but that its VERY notchy. Maybe they didn't have the cables adjusted correctly, Viper?

the notchiness had to do with the fact that there is 1. increased effort to move the lever because of the lack of mechanical advantage of the new lever= short shift 2. There is a neutral detent that seems to make it more difficult to pass without the stock mechanical advantage when shifting.

Bottom line is that the under car has all the benefits of the in car without the detriments of the increased force required as well as the detent problem. I cannot say if the under car changes any of the "slop that the billet bushings seem to be able to remove with the in car"

the advantage to running both IMO is it shortens the throw to where a 6 speed Porsche should be
With both it virtually eliminates all side to side slopiness as well
The undercar has 3 settings as well so if it's too short for someone they could adjust it back for that condition
I installed the undercar shifter in Stephguys and ZA22' cars as well and they said it felt like a different car(they both have the in car as well)
There was also much talk about the undercar shifter beating up the trans inside...I have not seen this at all...KPV also runs both and he is very happy as well
After all isn't the shortest throw the ultimate??
When I buy another turbo the first thing I will do to the car is both kits
The undercar shifters are all made by B&M and rebadged to Techart, etc.

Sorry for the late reply...slammed at work!
