Big problem - Harness for 3:rd brakelight Aero Spoiler

Ok - so I encounterd a big and very, very weird problem.

I realy hope someone can help me.

I am installing my new Aero wing on my 996 2001 cab. A great mod if I may say so.

The only problem is - Porsche stopped making the harness inside the wing to the 3rd brake light

Take a look in the Pictures below. Nr 1 shows a spoiler with the Cable coming out from the 3 rd brakelight in the spoiler. (red mark) nr 2 shows the Cable I also bought (red mark where the other Cable should connect). You need the second harness because the car no more have a hydralic spoiler.

So the problem are - where can i get the first harness??? (not my spoiler in pic)

I have the partnr but checked 7 times with Porsche - and the awnser is. Sry we dont make this part anymore, and there are no substitute?!?!

How does ppl install these wings and get a function brakelight? Any thought? Any Vendor who can sell me the harness?

Partnr for the harness to the brakelight are: 996 612 070 10

Bulletin for installation of wing, with above partnr described are here: http://workshop-manuals.com/porsche/...ure/page_7228/

Where/Who did you buy the wing from? No help from them? I would imagine you could make the harness fairly easily if you know which connectors you need (or hardwire it if you don't need the plug n play option). Good luck

I'm not sure how handy you are with electronics but if you trace out the wire going to the spoiler motor and get its impedance, you maybe able to fool the computer by splicing in a similiar value resistor to fool the computer into thinking you still have your factory spoiler. Make sure the resistor is robust enough to not get burnt out though.

did you check the manufacturers that make after market spoilers, maybe they offer a harness. Just a thought.

Thank you for all the replys.

No luck with the manufacture, as he (like me) thought Porsche sells the harness.

I also tryed to email, Mashaw, GT3tek, Precision Porsche and some other companies. None of them was interested in Selling me the harness, infact most of them did not even awnser me

The last solution is to make my own harness, with new connectors.

But there must be ppl out there who has experince with this problem or encounterd it Before. I mean if you buy a new spoiler from Porsche it dosnt make any sense that you cant order the harness to get your brake light to work

Right here mate:

Relatively cheap compared to the non 3rd brake light harness...

You can also make the harness from a standard 996 wing harness

Thank you, but this harness is the one in Picture nr 2. This harness I allready have purchased, Porsche still makes it, NP at all.

The problem is the harness inside the spoiler, the one in Picture nr 1.

Anyone who has installed a aerowing here? How did you gyus do?

I really hope someone can tell me, as I said, last solution is to build my own harness

Did you look on ebay for a harness? I think you just jump two of the pins to disable the spoiler warning light. It depends on the year and I can't recall of the top of my heard for 2001 (I think 02 was 2 and 5)

B8_RDC - thank you for the reply but it is not the spoiler that are the problem, that harness I have. it is the harness inside the spoiler, conceting the brakelight to the other harness.

dan_189 - thank you, but i have that plug, it is the plug going into that plug including the other side I need.

Partnr: 996 612 070 10

hmm - I Think I will need to build my own cableharness. Still seems so weird that NOONE ever encounted this problem Before??
