Muffler Delete with added resonators to quiet down drone??

Hello guys...

I have a 03 996 that has a muffler delte kit on it with full bolt ons... Equal length headers... IPD 74mm Plenum ..CAI Kit....

I was wondering if anybody has put a resonater just before the opening to the tips or curve to the tips...to tone down the drone??

Love the weight loss... But just need the tone a tad bit reduced...I belive a resonater on each side would do the trick...

Also for all of you that have lowered your car with springs....did you choose 1 in or 1.25 inch..

Just completed the 1.25 inch and think the rear sits a tad too low... Just getting ppls thoughts on how much was just enough...

Resonators will sure bring down the volume! It seems you've already had them built. But Afterhours has a setup of dual resonator pipes and I believe GMG has a similar set for the 996 gt3, which I believe are interchangeable with the 996's, tho not 100% sure.

BTW, which headers are you running? and have you seen any hp differences with the Plenum (so expensive...)

Yes huge difference...

I installed the K&N cai Kit with the 74mm IPD Plenum at the same time after I had already completed muffler delete and equal length headers..

The headers actually shifted and started my powerband now starting at 3k vs 4k rpms and hold all the way to redline...

I highly recommend you install headers before installing IPD Plenum... The Plenum allows it to breath all the way to 7k rpms and it wants to keep going!! I imagine it will pull to 7400 easy with the rev limiter raised..

We are a dealer for IPD and I'm not blowing smoke here just to sell Plenums... It's really amazing what the combo achieves... I know alot of NAY Sayers on here say that it doesn't do anything... But they probably didn't have headers and a cai Kit to accommodate..

Our 2003 996 is a shop project car with 48k miles...
We're shooting for 11.90s in a NA non turbo set up ...

Dyno Tuning at our shop is scheduled for next week...it really needs the extra timing and air fuel adjusted to get the powerband more smooth and accelerate faster..

This project car has turned out to be one of the most rewarding ones we have ever done... You can get solid hp and tq gains out of a NA 996 is just has to have all the accompanying comparable parts to achieve this...

You figure a new 911 NA has 350 hp... Our 996 is going to blow that out of the water...

Experience... Knowledge and the best damn tuner in the southwest helps out alot..

Crown Prince of Dubai's NAS racing team head tuner for the last 4 years...

Pm me and I can give more details...

sinatrakat:

Which headers are those?

In your opinion, are there any noticeable noise and power differences with your upgraded header?

Thanks

Yes the main difference was that the power band started at 3k rpms now vs 4k rpms and noticable top end gains...again must do all of the above mods to get the full effect of the IPD Plenum
