Trying to reduce weight....
Trying to reduce weight....
I've read the thread over on reenlist but my numbers seem a bit off...
-swapped my twist wheels for skinny 5 spoke performance wheels - (16) LBS
-removed my spare wheel/tire - weighed in at (27) LBS
-removed both rear seats and they weighed in at (13) LBS .... Wrong?
-I have the factory sport seats, do those weigh less than the standard seats? Could I expect weight loss by going with recaro or sparco seats?
-thinking of the Afterhours exhaust to loose more weight but I like my fister mod
-what's the next easiest thing to remove?
*not planning to remove A/C or radio, but am open to other items....

rear seat backs and bottoms....i think they weigh a little more than 13
fixed back seats will reduce quite a bit more. oem seats 50-65 per seat depending on what you have. fixed back seats+bracket/rails will wieght 22-30 per seat.
you can save weight on battery....many options to drop up to 40lbs there
rear wiper if you have em

If you do find a secret place to get weight off, please share.
It seems like everytime I remove 5# I end up adding 10# on the following modification.
I am not a mathematician, but I think I am failing at the weight loss idea.

just curious but why? I can understand if you're a track junkie & want to be light & fast. But for everyday street driving, just leave it alone & enjoy the ride. just my .02c

Agreed....
You could remove the rear seat belts since you already pulled the seats out, and the rear wiper if you have one.
The sports seats are already lighter due to their reduced number of electric motors, there is no way you would notice a difference due to weight in that location with something lighter.
There is a sticky for this in the turbo forum:

do you still have the dual mass flywheel? that is big poundage and has a dramatic effect on how the car feels accelerating/decelerating. Plus lightweight flywheel and clutch package will save you more weight than what you have already don to the interior.
you have an aftermarket exhaust system now, but does it still use big mufflers? the factory systems with muffler hangers, stock mufflers etc weighs a ton (not literally)
this is a big area to loos weight depending on your noise tolerance. my hand built system is stainless headers/100 cell cats/ X-cross/into outlets done. no cel GT3 cup sound. full throttle above 4000rpm, sounds ferrari-ish. saved over 59lbs between the systems and i started with the factory sport system. have fun with whatever you are doing its your ride.....have it your way.

I have those completed and it did drop a lot of weight. However, installed a Dassport Roll Bar and Techart front strut brace, Porsche skidplate - negated weight loss. But, it's all good, like you said just do it your own way.

Unless you're going to track the car, the minimum weightloss you are going to get won't really be noticeable on the streets. You can't push the car on the streets like you can on the track. Don't get me wrong, I still dropped a few lb's on my little queen as well. But, it's not enough to make a difference.
