What's the general rule on tire wear bars?

What's the general rule on tire wear bars?

How thin are you guys running your tires prior to replacing them? Are you replacing tires as soon as the tread equals the wear bars? Or, are you running much thinner than that?

I track reasonably regularly and plan to swap out these Rossos for some Sport Cups as soon as they're burnt out...

Here's a pic of my rears:

RJ, I tend to run my tires past the safety bars, unless the rainy season is near. But then it rarely rains here in Southern California. I notice that the tires on my 996 tend to wear faster on the inside (perhaps due to my camber settings) so I dismount them from the rim and re-install/balance them to the other side.... (maintaining the direction) this practice buys me a little time before I need to replace. I'm a cheap guy as you can see.... =)

When the tech inspection tells me to change... I change.

You only have 7K miles right? You're already replacing them?!

Not quite yet. When they go OUT, Pilot Sport Cups go IN! I just want to see how thin everyone's wearing their tires...

11000 miles and my Dunlop SP SPORT 9090 are dead

Yesterday, my rear tires started burning off. The smell was horrible. I need new tires!

Appx. 11800 miles on car
