Can a stock 996 (1999) c2 NA beat turbos?
Can a stock 996 (1999) c2 NA beat turbos?
Well that's my question, what do you think? Mine is a tiptronic, not the fastest but it has given me some satisfaction. Although I haven't been able to beat an M3 E46, Toyota supra and Nissan skyline r34. What's your experience?
99 c2 vs turbo............... i have driven my 99 C4, with egas; cold air kit; asco light flywheel/clutch; custom GT3 cup style exhaust....bridgstone So4 pole tires; light rims. 6speed short shift (saves time and saves wasted motion..........966/997/991 turbos walk away on any version of a straight section of road. in turns tight stuff equal playing field.
if you bully a car that is turbo-ed and smaller engine that our 3.4, with around 300 hp. and the turbo-ed make around 250 hp 944, any dodge little car, then yes you can.
porsche turbo vs 996 na................. you must be kidding............... That's why the turbo is the turbo 415 hp vs 280hp just does not work. we wont mention the tip trans. that's just kicking a stuck pig........ JK Robby.

Well- I'm a new member and a new 996 owner. I'm also realistic. This engine is showing its age. It is fun to drive, it's a Porsche after all, but fast? Not really by today's standards, and against a turbo I'm pretty sure no matter what weight reduction or other of the limited go-fast modifications you could possibly do to an NA engine, it wouldn't be close- like not even a little bit...
996 turbo vs (insert car here)
Turbo stock romps all those cars you listed (modified its just plain ridiculous). its also awd and when it hooks it's something special.

"350Z, BMW Z4, Honda civic type R ? Do we have any chance? yes. i have a friend that has a 2003 305 z with the same mods my 99 C4 has, i kill him every time, any situation. the Z is heaver, and it really loses steam around 135. top speed for a z is supposed to be at 152 but the must have been tested down a mine shaft. BMW are a little porky by comparison, never seen one at the track trying to do anything. Honda r those make good horse power for there size, BUT not in the same animal kingdom as a NA porsche. i have passed cameros and mustang's at the track big heavy crap brakes. i matched lap times with a rousch supercharged boss mustang at 2:17 on the outer loop at Miller motorsport spark last year. he cloud pull a gap on the 3/8ths mile front straight, but i would catch up and be on his bumper coming onto the front straight by the start of the next lap. never told him my car only has the 3.4..... and not a GT3....

Porsches aren't really designed for drag racing, either on the track or the street. If you find yourself up against a modern performance car at a stop light, you will probably have your hands full. Porsches shine on the track. In that setting, things like light weight, crisp handling, and driver skill become more important than straight line speed.
My supercharged Audi SUV is faster in a straight line than my normally aspirated 996 was.

HOWEVER
That point, maybe be debated with Porsche developing Launch Control.
I will be drag racing my 996, as well as autocross & DE.
When a performance car pulls next to me at a stop light, it sure is tempting
, but I utilize every bit of resistance I have in me, not to use my EVOMS 5000 RPM launch control. If I every have a lot of money I don't know what to do with, this would be nice !!
