Plasti Dip rims - Avant Garde Ruger

Recently plasti dipped my Avant Garde Ruger 19" rims - dark grey 2 coats, 3 coats anthracite grey. Turned out really well versus the original silver.

Thanks guys. I posted because they did turn out better than expected and I thought folks may want to know, I haven't seen many people do it and it's not permanent so a good option. It's a smooth finish but slightly tacky to the touch, even after a few weeks. I was told it would be this way. Cleaning is easy but no rim cleaners, so it just takes a bit more time.

I've eliminated the tackiness by spray waxing it. Give that a try.

I've been toying with the idea of using Plastidip on my rear center console, to match the black of the front console in my otherwise Sahara interior. I have an extra console I bought on Ebay a few years ago and would try it on that. Do you think the Plastidip (sprayed with wax) would hold up?

If you prep it correctly and apply it correctly, it should hold up. Just make sure the Plastidip fully cures for a few days before applying the wax.

I've experimented on the wife's suv door handle and it's held up fine over 2 year so far(including winter) with constant touching as you need to open the door. This is also sitting in an outside environment 24/7.

I will say the black in Plastidip isn't true black so if you want to match it up, you may have to apply spray paint over the entire console to keep it consistent.

I've also painted a light coat over plastidip before without any issues due to this hue inconsistency.

I guess it would need a latex paint over it and that would probably eliminate the tackiness too. Thanks.

Great job! Greatest part is you can always revert back to the original color. I'm thinking of plastic dipping my front spoiler blk. Thanks for the advice on the spray wax! Did you prefer a specific type of spray wax? Thanks.

Off the shelf- Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax

Online- Optimum Spray Wax or Duragloss Aquawax

They're all pretty good. The Meg's is the easiest to apply and the most versatile to apply in all conditions.

Optimum and DG can have some streaking issues in certain climate conditions.
