Anyone made black calipers red (996)?

I'm sure this has been done a thousand times, but I'm new here. I want to change the color of my 996's black calipers to red with the appropriate PORSCH logo in white so they look correct.

Powder coating? Painting or polimer coating? Who does it best? I imagine the correct way to do this is disassemble the claiper, have it colored, replace the seals and boots and put the thing back together with SS hardware. I would also imagine that stenciling the logo back on would be a better option than a decal. I'd try to do what the factory dose. Any suggestions?

Cost?

Thanks,
John

sandoval does it. he's on the board. he has a core set. you just tell him what color you want and mails them out. you mail your black ones back when you do the swap. i think it cost me around 500-600 dollars. mine came out great. he uses the decals for the logo. mine have been on there for a year. they look great still.

whatever you do, don't use that caliper paint. it looks like **** on the porsche calipers. they are too smooth for it to come out right. i did the calipers on my 330 and they came out awesome, but the caliper finish was much roughter. the porsche calipers are so smooth it kind of just pushes the paint around and never looks factory. don't hack it.

i know other people that have removed the calipers and had them painted with high temp paint. that came out great too.

i VERY MUCH beg to differ. i'm not sure what paint you used but i assume that it was the brush on type. if it was then you are correct but if it is the spray on type then the finish comes out very smooth. i used high temp spray caliper paint and used the decal "negative" as a painting stencil for the porsche logo and it came out looking very good.

i also agree that powder coating it the best way to do it but if you want to save 400~500 bucks... it cost me 30 bucks and my time.

nice and glossy. does it look like ****e to you?

yours look fine. i never said the spray paint looks bad. as a matter of fact, in my second post i even said the spray paint looks good. personally, i would pull them off to paint them, no matter how you were going to do it.

the brush on stuff looks like hell though. i'll never use that again. that was a monumental waste of time.

HELL YES!!! the brush on stuff is CRAP! i tried it on my former boxster. looked like crap on one caliper so i thinned it down and sprayed it on. second time around i used the high temp spray out of the can.

hehe, look fine? i think they look great

my car is not a concourse car so i really didn't care if the insides of the calipers were still black

i find they're just a lot harder to clean while they're still on the car. much easier to do off the car. not to mention you don't have to deal with the possibility of overspray.
