Nobody gets 10 hp out of mufflers? Says who?
Getting hp out of low backpressure systems has been done for years on all sorts of racing engines, why is porsche any different? Of course you give up some low end tq, but who cares about the low end at the track. The reason the factory quotes zippo for the pse is bc the pse adds exactly nothing, it is not a hi flow or hi performance muffler. The pse is simply loud, all it amounts to is a pipe welded btwn the inlet and outlet to allow a certain % of unmuffled sound out, primarily for the us market.
Any good high quality(ie not ripoff /knockoffs) muffler can be engineered to crank out at least that kind of hp. You saw it for yourself with the suncoast headers, a good, quality peice, I highly doubt the zerotek headers would add anything, they're just a cheap knockoff. It's all about quality.
I'm gonna pick up a set of Joe's headers, I'll post pics and a critical review. I may even do a dyno run, who knows, but I'll def test them back to back with my g timer( just as accurate as a chassis dyno for this discussion). Don't know that I'm unbiased though

when i said 10HP out of mufflers, i should have specified on our cars specifically. nobody claims to even close to that.

i even talked to mike at AWE via email about their headers, high flow cats, and mufflers. he said the entire package netted 12 crank HP, and half of that was from the cats.

i agree with you on that i would gladly give up a bit on the bottom to gain more in the 4500 up range. joe's claims just always seem to be a bit higher than everyone elses. i've heard that you only 5 HP out of muffler bypasses, so how in the world do you get 10 out of mufflers.

i will probably call Joe on Monday. I would like to talk to him about his product. Maybe I can get him to agree to a "i only pay if it makes the HP , otherwise they go back" type deal. the dyno runs are only $50.

im just very skeptical that not one other manuf's claims are even close to him. hell, Joe only claims 8-10 HP for cat bypasses. just sounds fishy.

i just got my OBD software in last night. works like a gtech, i think. you have to plug it into the OBD port and enter a bunch of variables about your car (weight, outside temp, gearing, final drive, etc, etc). I was scratching my head last night as I couldn't answer half the questions they were asking.

do you have to do the same thing for the gtech? does that a gyro inside it or something, as it does not appear to be hooked up to the car in any way.

It has a gyro type thing inside, you still have to enter all sorts of data about your car. I tested it and it seems pretty right on with the stock hp. Good as anything else to compare mods before/after.

I have GHL and like them. Got them on the special on rennlist for something like 800. They are not too loud when you drive normally and they sound good when you are on it. That's exacly what I wanted especially with a cab.

I bought Albert's GruppeM exhaust and it's sweet. The sound is deep and throaty, no drone and the look is unlike anything that is currently out there as I've never seen it on any other Pcar.

Has anybody installed the B&B exhaust system(Headers and Mufflers)? On their website they claim a 31 Hp gain at the wheels...

Ruf. The sound has me sold. Doesn't seem like it gave up any torque. At the end of the day, you have to hear each of the pipes and decide which best suits you. Of course, quality should be a preeminent consideration as well.
