My Rattle are gone!!!

after convincing everyone i am not crazy and i don't hear things
now after 4 trips to the dealers in 7 months
waited another 6 weeks for the "porsche rep" to arrive
and of course discovering more rattles the process...............
------------------ ALL my rattles are gone--------------------

i am so excited!! i think i can actually enjoy my car now.
in the mean time, they replaced my exhaust tips due to some peeling, they complimented my last oil service, and must of called me crazy more than ten times.

this is awesome. just very happy today.

my first trip for rattle was to a different dealer few months after i bought the car. it was just a rattle near the right front dash. they told me they fixed it by adding some insulating stuff. as i left the dealer, the same rattle started. worse yet, another rattle on the right rear near the B pillar started. this was the first time i ever head it. it is actualy more annoying as it was constant and carried a higher pitch.

i decided to take it back to pacific porsche where i bought the car. they told me the front dash was due to a broken clip which was replaced. they were not so sure about this right rear constant rattle. but they replace all the material behind the b pillar and thought it may have reduced it, not gone.

i drove it for a while and just tried to ignore it. in fact, i thought i would just sell the car..

last month, i took it back again. not so much for the rattle but for oil service. since my originall warranty was going to expire in march, i thought i mention the rattle again. they did various things, incuding replacing more stuff on the right side of the car and rear compartment. but it persisted.

so they told me that they will need to wait for a "DSM".. some one from porsche to take a look. i brought the car home and thougth this was giong to go no where. i was pretty set on getting rid of the car.

last week, they called and told me this guy was coming. so i thought what the hell, one last try.

aparently the porsche guy felt that this rattle was transmitted to the b pillar and rear quarter from the front. so he instructed the dealer to take apart my front dash, steering wheel, glove compartments. they then reinsulated each piece and reattached everything back.

this has solved the problem. the persistent rattle has gone aways. all the small noise from the front that used come on from time to time are all gone.

so this is the story...................i am very happy and thankful that pacific porsche took my complaint seriously.

Just curious,

Did you purchase your vehicle there? I know a couple of the parts guys there and one of the techs, they've always been stand-up people for the "most part".

Glad to hear you are quiet again...... Well from the inside at least.

Eli and Trovan - how do your cars handle on 19´s compared to 18´s?
I´ve heard stories of increased bump-steer and other nasties, due to 996 not being designed for more than 18 inch.
Maybe PSS9 et al + new settings remedies that? What suspension do you use?

i have the OEM ROW supsension. suprprisingly my 19" aren't that different from the 18". i do hear slight more road nosie at high speed. but no real change in feeling the bumps at all. steering feels slightly lighter and no difference in handling. i feel lucky. when i got 19" for my audi S4, it was a dramatic differnce in bumps and noise.. also true when i got 19's on my M3.

I'm down to a 30 series in the rears so the ride is a bit harsh. I've I said many-a-times the noise doesn't bother me all that much and I drive with my window down 99% of the time.......
