Any recommendation for aftermarker stereo?

my stock stereo is finally broken. The screen is completely unreadable. My CD decided to permantely sleep in the stock CD box. They will never come out.

What headunits are you guys running? Not going to spend a lot of money - want to spend the money on suspection set up

What is your stock unit? CDR-220, CDR-23, or one of the double din PCM units? Lastly, when model of 996?

Well that's good news because the analog systems in the 2000 are easy to upgrade. I'm assuming it's the Porsche PCM unit and not an aftermarket unit?

Well, of course, it all depends on your budget and what features (i.e. navigation, bluetooth) you want.

I would recommend going with a Sony or Pioneer double din... here's a couple of examples that people have bought for their 996 cars:

I recently dropped in a Kenwood Excelon 9903s which was recently suceeded by the 9904s. You lose built-in Nav but with Carplay your phone's maps/nav are mirrored onto the face and integrated into the sound. In addition it has bluetooth for your phone and audio streaming and I've added a front and rear camera. The screen is pretty large at nearly 7" and you can pick whatever angle you want. (CD slot is behind it so it doesn't take up space in case you still use CDs)

Thanks everyone for their input - I’ll definitely look into the ones recommended. Kenwood sounds great.

Kenwood is a good choice. I’ve used their stuff with no problems.

i went to my local stereo stop and spoke to a SA. he was very helpful and helped me to understand what i need. wince i use my iphone for navigation, bascially all i need is a doible din unit with a rear camera and appleplay. i asksd about the Kenwood unit and he said that there were many repairs and recommend me not to buy one. he said that the bluetooth connection with iphone is not very good neither (perfect with android). i found only very goood comments on amazon also. anyway sincd the mechanic want around on that day, i told him that ill come back next weekend. i will defintely look for a dash camera and rear cam when i do my purchase next week.

I recently installed a new Pioneer head unit with Car Play. Syncs seamlessly with my iPhone, and the good news is that it now supports Waze navigation. /X3
