New Porsche Owner & couple questions
Hello everyone. I just got my first Porsche, a 1999 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with 53,000 miles. She is Artic Silver with a Metropol Blue interior and black top. I live in the St. Louis, MO area. As I clean and detail things I have a few questions. I found a bracket that I was told holds the owners manual but I'm not sure exactly where it is supposed to go. Also it has what looks to be a space saver spare in the trunk under the cover. Looks like it has never been used but it also looks like there is not air in it. Should it be inflated? Finally, what is a good bang for the buck for performance upgrades without spending a ton of money? Thanks, John

The owners manual mounts under the steering wheel. You should notice the mount locations once you get a light under there. What kind of mods are thinking about? performance, cosmetic, etc???

Performance increases for not a lot of money - that is an oxymoron when it comes to the 996. A modded exhaust will add to your enjoyment. A cold-air intact is really a hot air intake when it comes to these cars and can actually damage the MAF (if over-oiled). Porsche engineers got the intake right. Save the performance money for suspension updates/upgrades. Cosmetic mods can be wheels, tail lights, side markers, dash cluster rings, bluetooth adapter or complete stereo upgrade.
An interesting thing about using the compact spare. The tire it replaces will probably not fit in the car. A lot of people remove them for the weight. Personally I think it's another layer of protection in case of a front impact.
And congratulations on your car! Enjoy!
