996 Auto transaxle info

Hello,

I'm looking for some help on the 996 c2 auto transaxle. I'm building a street buggy powered by a nissan sr20 with an auto transaxle. I was looking at using the 996 c2 auto transaxle for this build. I believe it has a trans controller and torque converter. My questions are does the trans controller operate independently of the engine ecu? Is the trans controller standalone? I don't need the paddle shift function it will just run as a regular automatic. In that case will it work without the trans controller? Are there different versions of this transaxle that would be better for this type of build? Maybe some years worked in conjunction with the ecu and some didn't. If the trans controller does work in conjunction with the engine ecu and they can't be separated, does anyone know of a third party standalone trans controller that would work? Are there any Porsche auto transaxles that do not run any electronic control?

Thanks for the help
