Anti-lock brake question
Anti-lock brake question
What issues would make my antilock brakes go off early? Worn out pads? My antilock seems to go off sooner than it should. Like if someone was to cut in front of me and I would need to step on the brakes a little bit harder, it would start to go off... Doesn't feel very safe. Any input would be appreciated thanks!
do you flush brake fluid every 2-3 yrs? if not, try this first.
are the tires worn? if so, replace with good tires that match.
abs sensor may be corroded.
are you riding on stock rims or some aftermarket size? oversize rims can cause abs to go off.

I was suspecting the brake fluid. I got the car used about 2 years ago and haven't changed the fluid since, so maybe i'll try that first. Then i'll check the abs sensors... When I bought the car, it had aftermarket wheels on it, 17's on it. Not sure what the stock size was, but I believe the ones on there right now are 17's. Thanks for the info!
ABS looks for the locking of the tire (change in speed verses other tires). If you changed the tires on the car to something with less grip due to cost or design (i.e. snow or all season) it will lock easier and the ABS will come on quicker.
My car has Continentals (225/40/18) in the front and Michelin pilots (265/35/18) in the rear; both have about the same tire wear.
Correction from my earlier post : 18inch rims instead of 17's..

Conti's should only be used is you are looking to complete in a drifting competition. Traction sucks, and therein is your problem, most likely.

I tried new cheap rear tires with original cont on the front. Bad deal. The PCM and anti-lock went on all the time, violent on turns at mod speed. Its the type of tires not the brand. Got a lesson from Tires Rack, forgot most of what he said except "DONT MIX TIRES MNFs and you'll be OK". Got new tires for the rear and it was perfect!
