VarioCam Plus...hesitation
VarioCam Plus...hesitation
I've had my C4S for about a month now and I am noticing some hesitation, or studder, around 3K rpms. I talked to the dealer about it, and he said that it was the VarioCam Plus. I told him that I want it looked at, just to be safe. Has anybody else had this issue?
Thanks!
Thanks!
My 02 C2 has had a similar problem since I purchased it at 11,900 miles (7/2005). There is a stumble and chatter/rattle/noise as the engine goes through 2,950 rpms. It feels like a flat spot or transition point. The noise is definitely on the top of the engine. The noise seems to be getting louder, the mileage is now 15,950. The ehgine otherwise seems to run normally.
The dealer examined it last week and indicated that no previous 996 had been seen with the same problem. The PCNA rep said the noise was within acceptable specs!? The dealer indicated that since the problem was first identified during the warranty period it would be covered if subsequent issues developed, although currently out of warranty. Somehow that has still not made me feel too comfortable! Today I sent a question to Joel Reiser at PCA.org for his opinion. I will let you know when I hear back from him.

Is there any noise or does it just lose power? If it just loses power, sounds like a typical MAF problem. You can fix the problem yourself for a few bucks, just need some security torx removers and a can of electronics spray cleaner.

I am assuming you feel it the most when you are slowing hovering close to the 3K rpm mark. As you are increasing your speed slowly, you will feel / notice the "shudder" the most. Is this what happens?
If so, don't worry about it. If it's more of a hestitation then there may be another issue.
