Cleaning wheels

I have the 18" Carrera lightweight wheels but I'm sure we all have this problem. When you wash the car, the discs on the brakes often haze over with a thin layer of rusty crust.

Of course the wheels are the last things to clean and after you get them all pretty I pull it into the garage and the rusty goo from inside the holes on the disc has drizzled out all over the inside of the wheels and they have to be re-cleaned.

Does anyone have a way around this?

GG,
Have you waxed your rims? If not you should. Take them off, give 'em a good waxing. Then the brake dust pretty much wipes off, you really don't even need to use water.

The flip side is to not spray them. Use a damp cloth and keep rinsing it...

I wax them all the time. That doesnt stop the crud from dripping down onto the inside of the wheels. That stuff is really corrosive like acid or something!

After I wash the car and wheels and dry the car (not the wheels yet), I take it for a 1 block drive to heat dry the discs. Once home, I dry off the wheels.

Isn't there a bunch of goo around the inside of your wheels afterward?

Sounds like you might have some brake dust building up inside the rotors. Spray directly on the rotors and calipers and see if it will help remove the buildup.

Get your leaf blower out and thoroughly hit them with it....works well on the whole car.

I know what you're talking about GG. It's happened to mine when I let is sit and dry. All you have to do is drive it and brake...all the rust looking stuff will go away. Sometimes there is a line of it on the Rim, I just get a damp towel and wipe is off.

I also wax my car and wheels what a product call RejeX. Works like a charm! I've had my car for 5 months and have yet to really wash it. Weekly or bi-weekly I just take a damp clothe and wipe the car down. Everything comes off. When I really want it super clean I just use Mequires detail spray. I have no affiliation with RejeX, just a happy user. And at only $19 a bottle it's a bargin!

I guess that the only way around it is plain old elbow grease.

After I take it for a ride to heat dry the rotors, I wipe off the wheels--the surface facing me. I don't worry about the inside of the wheels. Hey--maybe I'm not that **** about my car after all...
