Question funny thing: auto wipers, no auto lights?!

So this isn't a complaint per se, I just find it really funny:

How is it that the 996 has auto wipers but no auto lights?! Didn't the former hit market *AFTER* the latter? E.g., if auto wipers --> probably auto lights too, no?!

As for the auto wipers, I never really thought they'd be such a nice little thing to have ... but wow, now that I've gotten used to them, I get annoyed with my X5 when it rains as it does't have them!

Neither are necessary. A porsche guy can surely remember to turn off lights and adjust wiper speed. If anything, the wiper is probly more useful as it's continuous adjustment through out a drive where as the light pretty much stays on or off.

If you ask me, I'd delete both and get dimming rear and side mirrors.

You guys actually drive slow enough to use wipers? Coat that windshield up with RainX and do 180km/h+, rain beads right off

i KNEW someone was going to post some sort of sarcastic, arrogant remark lol ... I never said either was NECESSARY -- just said that I surprisingly discovered the auto wipers to be a very handy feature, and I was just surpirsed that auto lights -- which I have found to be similarly "handy" in other cars so equipped -- were not included. And this is coming from a guy who ALWAYS left his headlights on even during the day -- since long before daytime running lights started becoming standard.

Auto wipers are set by first flipping the wiper switch to intermediate and then off again (or do you leave it on intermediate -- i forgot) and then adjusting the "sensitivity" of the auto system with the rotational dial on the center consol just to the left of stereo, below the PSM button.

I think only the 02 and up P 996 have auto wipers.......you are right about the auto lights..it is such a simple and cheap feature for the manufacturer to install....

Rain Sensor wipers has been an option for a while. In 02 it got bundled with the auto-dimming mirror option. Otherwise all you get in a 996 is manually adjustible delay. It is pretty cool when it's misting out not to have to touch anything.

As for headlamp sensors, love it and hate it on my Cayenne. It goes on when you don't want it(like going under a cloud), but it is cool not to remember to put them on at dusk.
