stereo upgrade

Hi guys, I need help with upgrading my stereo. I started by replacing the stereo unit for an Eclipse unit with NAV. But the sound quality is not there. I am considering replacing the speakers and amp, plus adding a sub woofer. I am not looking for a Kick *** system, just one that sound like my stock stereo on by X5 4.4I. Any suggestion where to get the job done in SoCal?

Thanks in advance.

Reus is in LA area and they have good stuff including their own speakers. JL amp, focal and MB quart spkrs are very popular choices. sub can be put into passenger footwell by the lower console as in Bose. Or you can mount subs behind the rear seats.

Where in SoCal are you located? I know of a few good places.

I would recommend Diamond Audio, Focal and Dynaudio. Guess it really depends on what price range you want to stay in.

Heres is waht I did:
Replaced dash and door speakers with 3 way Focal 165 V3E seperates.
Replaced stock amp with Audison LRX 6.9 amp
Added footwell sub with 8" JL Audio 8w3 Subwoofer
Used stock rear speakers.
Have Kenwood DDX 7015 head unit with Nav/Sirius/DVD/MP3/iPod
Hard wired iPod in center console

The sound is AMAZING.....I am in SoCal, if you wanna meet up somewhere and take a listen I would be happy to do that....

I was looking at a Reus system, but mine was 1/3 the cost and has better low end response.

Newport996, Your systems sick! I plan on putting a system in hopefully in the next few weeks. How much do you think it will run me to swap out all the stock speakers with Focals? And a new amp and head unit? I plan on doing a sub later possibly. Do you live out in Newport? I was just down there all weekend hanging out with some friends.

I would do the fronts and doors with Focals...the rears are not as important and actually sound pretty good with more power going to them. The first thing should be the head unit...For the speakers and amp look at about $1500 in parts..I did my own install so I am not sure what the install prices would be.

Newport, thanks for the info and pictures, u did a great install. So u paid $1,500 for amps and speakers, what about the subwoofer? I am getting quotes for the install of around $1,200. I would love to listen to your system. My best day would be on Sunday.

Does $4600 for DLS speaker and Lunar amp and custom subwoofer sound about right? This quote is from Jamey Rawlings. It includes the installation.

DLS makes great stuff....top notch...I am sure the custom sub is nice and I am sure the install is also top notch. I would ask for quotes on a good, better, and best systems...ask the differences in each and make your choice accordingly.

I went with the kenwood double din...I liked the features, the ergonomics, the Nav system, and its ability to do touchscreen iPod integration. Eclipse is probably the best sounding, Apline has a new Hi-Speed iPod interface that looks pretty cool....Pioneer has lots of bang for the buck, but its not my cup of tea....I would say the Kenwood DDX-6019...it also has bluetooth capabilities...If you dont want a double din unit capable of playing DVD's, then get a Nakamichi...great sounding..looks stock....
