Suspension Upgrade sugguestions

Hi all, I am deciding on upgrading the suspension of my 99 996 C4 Cab. I am looking at several kit and need some sugguestions on them-PSS9, M30, X74 and KW V3. My car is mostly for street use and some autocrossing. Any sugguestions and comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm running PSS9's on my '02 cab and I love the set up.

I'm sure others will chime in as well.

From what I gathered from looking on here all of those are very capable systems. I have heard that the PSS9's are great. You might also want to look in the 996tt forum. I recently saw a post in there about the K&W V3, it was a glowing reccomendation.

I have a set of the V3's that I am putting in next weekend. I'll let you know once they are in.

I would also suggest doing the GT3-Sway Bars and Adjustible Drop Links. I think DeputyDog said they made a bigger difference that the coilovers did.

Unless you are going to track the car a great deal the PSS9s are great. I've had them for 10 months on my 996 and they are great on the street and better than stock on the track.

PSS9s seem to be the way to go, but seem to be on the higher end of the spectrum in regards to price. After that most people look at the x74 or ROW M30. I know a lot of the 993 guys that are impressed by JRZ. The things to consider are your budget and how flexible you want your ride to be in respect to adjustability.

After a quick search i found the thread on the K&W's.

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...hlight=variant

A few people there say they upgraded from the H&R's to the K&W's and it was a big improvement. There are also a bunch of people who also say they ride quite a bit better as far as ride quality goes and handle better than the PSS9's. They are a bit more but I hope they are worth it, since i got some for my car

Check out the thread, its an interesting read.

Can you explain? Do you have any experince with them? I have never heard a bad word about them. They offer more adjustability than the PSS9's and have a great racing reputation?

Please enlighten...

My buddy has em on his E46 and other has PSS9's on his E46 same cars, diffrent suspension, the one with PSS9's rides like a dream. Plus KW are more expensive than PSS9's i think. and i think Bilistine offer the best Quality for the Money.

Also H&R and KW dont update thire design as often as Bilstine. H&R has not updated the Coilovers for the TT since they came out in 2001.

The K&W's are more expensive than the PSS9's because the offer more adjustability. You can adjust rebound and damper independantly unlike the PSS9's where there is only one adjustment.

The K&W's on your friends E46 might not have been adjusted to optimal settings. From the thread i posted above there are a few M3 guys who say the K&W handled and rode better than the PSS9's.

But each person determines handling and ride differently.

...i guess its personal preferance then, go with the KW and let us know how they work out.

Also you might also wanna look at who offers the best warranty. My Friend had a instance and called up Bilstiene and they sent him a Replacement first and then he sent in his...

And if your really looking to spend that much you might also wanna look at these, they offer crazy adjustablity.

-JIC
-JRZ
-MOTON CLUBSPORTS

I have the JIC's and they rock. Adjustability is great, but I have never tracked the car with them on.

I have a set of PSS9s, they are ok, tracked them once, but felt that on the street they were quite harsh(bound wise) especially in cali with our really rough roads...but since we have to replce the front shocks due to a blown seal, might be considering KWs instead...

Thanks for all the inputs. Jaded996, let me know how the KWs feel like when you get them installed. I think currently the verdict for the first place is KWs and second is PSS9. Has anyone have X74 and switch to PSS9 or KWs? I like to know on the difference between them.

I replaced the stock suspension on my 2002 996 with the ROW030. Two reasons: 1.) get a little stiffer for the track but since at the time I only did a half dozen DE days and the car was my daily driver, I still wanted a compliant ride; and 2.) lower the ridiculously high US suspension to get the proper European look. Even more critical when riding 19" rims. Although I can't comment on your other choices, I was very pleased with my choice also given the relatively low cost for this option.
