How useful is the 996' rear seat?

I have a 3 year-old future WNBA player who is 3'7" @ 37 months! Can she sit in the passenger rear seat in a booster seat and have enough leg room for her mother (5'2") in the seat in front of her? Or, if she's sitting in the passenger seat, can the airbag be manually disabled?

She should sit in back. You'll need a Britex booster seat as most booster won't fit (rear seat bottom too small).

Front airbag can be disable only with a special kit from dealer. It's a few hundred bucks and still not safer than rear IMO.

Go to a Porsche dealer and test fit if you want. 997 and 996 space should be nearly identical.

My son is six and has sat in the back since he was four. He's not a future NBA star though. He fits fine, only drawback is that he can't see out he window. Which doesn't really matter because after five minutes the drone from the motor puts him to sleep. I do have a booster for the front now that he is older. The seat belt fits him properly and he can see out the window.

My 10 year old fits fine both in front and back seat. My 6 year old daughter sits in the back, best with a booster for belt placement and to see out the window better.
Funny how fast kids fall asleep in the back of 911´s. Maybe I should try a boxer-6 recording under the pillow at night?

My 2 teen daughters sit in back on occaision and they are 5'5" and 5'6". Better to be a little cramped in a cool car than stretching out in Mom's uncool Volvo on the way to school.

There was a thread on this in Joel Reiser's Tech Section on PCA website in late 2005. Porsche changed the ZOOM booster seat design from 996 to 997 model years. The 996 Zoom booster seat was made with a buckle adapter that clicks in under front passenger seat - a passenger side airbag disabled light should come on under the dash if it connected properly. I think the 997 has a toggle somewhere to manually disable the airbag. The old 996 Zoom car seats are still avail occassionally on Ebay, and sometimes with the adapter clip - keep in mind these are two separate part numbers. That said, the Zoom was made by Britax - so regular Britax booster works fine for kids over 35lbs. If you can get the adapter to disable airbag you are good to go in front seat, otherwise, you probably wouldn't want to risk putting your child there, lest somebody you didn't count on hits you. My two little girls love the rear seat - they pump their fists in glee back there.

FYI: Zoom's have been off market for awhile and pricing has got a little crazy. The Porsche Zoom replacement Kid Plus is finally now featured in Tequipment section on Porsche website (Kid Plus PNA 986 017 03)...not sure on pricing - you'll still need the adapter for airbag disabling in 996s.
