Oil change ... are you kidding?

I know we all must make pretty good dough to own a Porsche but I brought my car in this morning for an oil change to a local dealer. After we talked for a while he said sign here to give us authorization to complete the oil change. Oh, and by the way it's $215. I almost fell out my chair. I've owned a 348 Ferrari and a Viper and I think the most I ever paid for an oil change was $100. Does this seem extreme. Any suggestions for a good spot in Newport Beach, CA area?

Oil Change

Do it yourself. It's very easy and a whole lot cheaper than paying someone else to do it. If you do not want to do it yourself, call around, some dealers have "coupon" specials that run about $85.

Good luck.

Yep --- Plus when I picked up the car the radio was blasting on a station that I don't even listen to and there was about 15 miles on the odometer. That is the LAST time my ride is going there.

Changing the oil looks pretty easy. The only question I have is what to do with the used oil? Will service stations or quick lubes take it?

Disposing of Used Oil

I just know about New Jersey. Where every service station and the place where you purchased the oil must, by law, accept the used oil. This of course is the letter of the law. But I have found that Pep Boys, Auto Zone do accept used oil. Here it is against the law to improperly dispose of this stuff, ground water and all that stuff.

I have done it recently. Picked up the oil filters on ebay...got 4 of them for $25. Put Royal Purple 5-30 in (CALI guy here...good enough viscosity) . 8.3 quarts. Very simple to do. I do believe the plug is an 8mm allen...(guys correct me if I am wrong), when putting plug back in, use between 20-25lbs of torque. This is really important, because getting that bastard out can be a bad deal. Go to Kragen's or similar auto house, and get oil resevoir (10 bucks) and here in CALI, Kragens disposes of your oil for free...That's nice!!! Piece of cake! I would imagine all auto house's do the same.
Also, I am a distributer for Royal Purple. It is the REAL DEAL guys! Amazing oil! Have any Q's...let me know.

I thought it was okay to bury it in the ground? That is where it comes from, right?

When our local Boxster group gets together to work on cars we make the women change the oil.
