its a piece of cake...it was my first DIY and although took 3 hours I did everything right except the manual fails to tell you to MARK THE SHIFT CABLES BEFORE removing them from the holders....

Marking the cables

It was too bad that I didn't check for or receive that advice before installing the B&M myself.

I feel that the short shifter is "sticky," for lack of a better word. It seems to encounter resistence, usually getting into first and third, and it bugs the heck out of me.

I've been meaning to open it all back up, but frankly, I don't know which adjustments I'd need to make.

If any of you have ideas, I'm all ears.

But anyhow: mark the cables and you'll be fine.

The only other problem I encountered was removing the shift **** and boot. I spend way too much time looking for a screw. In the end, all you need to do is pull pretty hard, upwards, and the clip holding the shift **** will release itself. Watch your face with the clip releases!

Bobby G - I had the same probelm...the way I solved it was that my tech had a stock shifter assembly lying in his shop with the adjustment tool (that does not fit the B&M unfortunately) and I took out the B&M and put that one ine, adjusted and marked the cables then re-installed the B&M.
Now that Porsche offers the sport shifter I am willing to bet they have an adjustment tool for that although I am not certain they do...
I've adjusted my B&M so many freaking times before doing the above that I can now remove the whole center console in 5 minutes LOL

MSindy: when one says "mark the cables" (which i have read EVERYWHERE), where/how do you mark them? is it while the shift assembly is still connected to the cables and you simply place a mark on them so to line them up properly or are you marking the thread? thanks

you mark the part where the cable is just out of the plastic holder so when you put it back in you can return it to the exact position/length...
My tech actually has a way of doing this WITHOUT ever removing the shift cables from the plastic holders!!

Your tech uses the same method as Porsche in their TSB. They remove the shift "linkage" directly off of the shifter and replace them onto the short shift. Go over to Renntech.org for details.
