Just got my B&M shifter (Thanks Eric at Bumper Plugs!!), I'm going to put it in myself. Anyone have any trouble DIY? Anything I should be careful of?
Thanks!

John,

I installed one last week, the only suggestions I have is to, label which screw goes where, to mark the cable linkages so that you know they are going back with the same cable extension length and finally, you have to remove all the old white bushes (they are throw aways). I am not at all mechanically inclined and I found it pretty easy, took me about 90mins.

Cheers,

Mark

If you PM me I'll give you my home number and I can try to assist if you have any problems.

I just installed a second set, (the first set was an ebay cheapo). This time I installed the AP shift linkage with the B&M (highly recommened for extra adjustability and durability). Now the shift is def much tighter. The install is pretty straight forward if you take your time. Good luck and enjoy

Based on my install, if you don't do what Mark says, or you will have to buy the porsche shift adjust tool Part # 000.721.961.90 to get the shifter to work right again. Also, don't throw away your old shifter, it is needed in case the cables ever need to be re-allighned with that tool.

I just installed the BM short Shifter. However I forgot to mark the positions of the cables. How can I tell if they are aligned correctly? Shifting is very notchy now.

Kentucky Windage

Couple of things you can do. 1. (best option) Put in the old shifter and buy the Porsche shifter adjustment tool-it's cheap. It centers and locks the shifter and than you put the cables on again and mark them. 2. You can pull the center console and and have a buddy try and keep the B&M shifter centered while you remount the cables. You may have to do this a couple of times so keep the console off and drive it. If you hear clunking while you shift, your shifter is hitting the side of the housing--try again more Kentucky windage is needed. Short shifters require more effort and tend to be a little notchy. Buy the tool it will give you peace of mind...

When removing the center console put a cloth around the hanbrake to prevent scratching the leather handbrake. The alignment tool is very helpful and only costs $6

The hardest part for me was breaking those plastic white tabs. Other than that, not that bad a of a DIY.
