Sway Bar Question:

As a cost effective upgrade:

What do you guys recomend? Is the OEM front bar good enough? I was thinking of just getting the rear sway bar. Also, will I require different drop links to replace just the rear?

(Also, if I ever want to corner weight the car, I understand I will need adjustable drop links on all four corners correct?)

I found the factory front sport bar (M030) and rear GT3 bar (1 from full stiff) to be a nice combo on my car with H&R springs and stock M030 shocks. I actually think that without increasing rear spring rate a good bit with coilovers that the front GT3 bar is too big of a jump as the car already understeers in stock form. On the GT3 they combat this big front bar change with a nearly 300 in/lb jump in rear spring rate compared to less than 100 in/lb spring rate change in the front. (spring rates compared to stock 996 rates)

What suspension do you have now? What do you want to accomplish, better handling at the track or just general street driving?

for H&R sway bar, it is heavier and thicker than gt3. The gt3 are hollow and have 5 adjustbility for track. The H&R has 3 adj. The gt3 you need new DL such as TRG if you track. H&R can use stock DL.
I have a C4 so the gt3 was out of the question. I went with H&R, the TT guys use H&R since it is 4wd and also beefier. For the 2wd, stick with gt3 and new DL. This is the best mod for getting rid of alot of body roll.

I just bought a set of JIC Competition coilovers....but no track for me. Just a semi-daily driver.

Knowing this you probably don't want to do the rear bar upgrade only. The standard JIC rates (8k and 12K I think) are designed to make the car much more neutral than it is in factory form. Adding a rear bar on top of that without doing the front as well could make for a very tail happy car.

H&R's might be the ticket if you don't want to deal with the adjustable droplinks however you give up adjustability on the front bar.

I just did a set of PSS9's and look forward in installing a set of H&R's.
I also did a set of wide 18" wheels recently.
With wider wheels and nice shocks I'm getting a fair amount of wallowing from my 1999 C2 presently, so it has been recomended by knowledgeable 996 tuners that the H&R will work best for me.

Can I simply install the front and rear H&R's without installing droplinks?

From what I have read so far, you only need the drop links on the front, the stock drop links in the rear can be reused.

Yes the H&R's use the stock drop links both front and rear.

why would you want to use the stock drop links though? if you're changing the other items out, upgrade those as well. the stock ones are flimsy...

i have pss9's, gt3 bars front and rear, and agency power droplinks. i think the bars made a bigger improvement than the bilsteins.

DD I have the same set up on my 02 cab but I removed the rear AP control arms due to a loud clicking noise that developed after a while. I seem to remember you had the same issue, was it resolved?

Cheers,
Stan

Yes. Every few weeks you need to get under the car and tighten them For whatever reason, they just keep loosening, even with loc tite. Not a big deal. 16mm wrench and you're good for a while.

Thanks. I may put them back on and give it a try again.
