Thanks for al the compliments. I am going by the shop this afternoon to check on it and hopefully it willbe further along. I am hoping for it to be in primer by next week some time.

I am really happy with the wheels, it was all a hope and a prayer that they would fit. I got measurements from the kit maker, and sent it to my buddy who works at mackin inductries and he custom ordered the size, offset and color for me. They took 6 months to come in.

That mexico blue is hot....hmmmmm

thats a pretty extensive project build. Do you work for a shop? i honestly dont see too many cars looking like that unless the person has a hookup/money/both.

Well the story on the scion is that my car club, Jade Motorsports, has been doing the "import scene" for like 10 years now. We have had some great success on the east coast and a few of us have made some high profile builds and great contacts in the industry. Scion offered three teams a scion XA and 15,000 budget to build a car for the 2006 Scion Sema Booth. The winner was to get a free scion XD when it comes out. They picked what they thought were the top three teams in the country. We were lucky enough to be selected.

We got the car and had about 3 months to build it. The nice thing is we were allowed to use sponsors in addition to the 15,000. We pitched a "time attack" style car with a mix of bling to it. That’s mainly the way we build all of our cars anyway, we like to give a good balance of show and go. We normally aren’t really big on huge stereo systems or lambo doors and such.

We basically gutted the car, tubbed it out, did a full roll cage, a turbo kit with all custom piping and a Greddy emanage, full coilover suspension, a crazy Japanese body kit, volk limited edition TE37 Time attack Wheels and all ARC accessories. We built it with about 90% JDM aftermarket parts. The car was unfortunately an auto and we didn’t have the time to do the 5-speed swap. I will tell you the car handled amazingly and was a blast to drive.

To help with the show aspect we had the entire interior recovered in black suede and did red stitching, including the dash doors and headliner. We also added a full stereo setup with floating amps mounted to the roll cage. The box in the trunk was designed to pull out with harness and be removable for track days. The car was painted HOK candy apple red with black accents. There is a ton more in the car, too much to list.

We did most of the work in my friend’s garage except for the paint, roll cage and stereo work. I was a blast.

Ultimately we came in third because the judging was done by hot import night’s judges and they don’t really understand all the race stuff and the rarity of the parts we got. The winning car was a widebody with a bunch of subs and amps in it.

As far as my car goes I have always like the euros more that the Japanese cars and had a BMW Mroadster that was all done up for show before this car. I got it published in 3 magazines, was paid to send it to Puerto Rico and go with it for a week for a show, and even got to be part of the filming of 2fast 2furious. I sold the car and then took all the cash from that and bought parts for my dream car, a 911.

I am just a regular working guy who has some connections and great sponsors and the modding disease really bad.

Here are some pictures of the scion:

^ great story and good stuff man. i like it. different but still very usable.

i too am dissapointed by the lack of knowledge of judges about rare parts...all they're looking for is bling in large quantities.....its almost impossible to win with a sleeper car these days

Yeah, I pretty much stopped caring about the awards a long time ago. My experience with most car show judges is that they don't know much about the specific car they are judging. They are recruited locally most of the time and volunteers mainly, and then are given multiple categories to judge. The same guy judging the Hondas judges the euros and has no clue what the parts are.

Most of the time in 90% of the car shows it comes down to the amount of stuff you can fit into your car. The guy with the most wins, not the guy with the best.

I do it now to make my sponsors happy, get more sponsors and meet really cool people who are into cars.

that is why NCCA judged shows are better... at least on the west coast.. Judges are flown in, and do well! They know thier classes well!

The time is nearly here! As of today the only things left to do are to fiberglass the front and rear bumpers so that everything lines up 100% perfect. They are doing an awesome job, so it makes it a little easier to deal with the time. One the front is extended, and the rear filled out they just need to sand and prep for primer/paint. I should be seeing it on Saturday all prepped up.

I think its nice how they molded the rear but left a sharp line where the flare meets the fender. They also sharpened the line on the front fender to match. The color is done, its going to be a very dark candy red, so at night it should be close to a black, mean and evil. But since its candy with the right lighting it will pop for photos.

I really am getting antsy right now. The car is so close to beeing done and me finally getting to enjoy it. I still have some projects to take care of when I get the car back.

I still need to install the front GT3 sway bar. After doing the coilovers and rear sway bar I got stuck up on the fronts due to that little boomerang plate that covers access to removing the old bar. The bolts on that thing were huge and and there really tight. I was afraid to yank to hard with the car sitting up on 4 jackstands.

The body shop is supposed to pull the cat-delete pipes off and put the factory ones back on there, along with my Agency Power Exhaust. I think the tips are going to need to be adjusted to fit to the rear bumper I have. I think I am going to have them done then send them off the be powder coated black like John Romano had done.

I am still not sure if I want to switch the steering wheel out. I have a hub, and a works bell quick release sitting in the garage along with a steering wheel that I am going to need to sell, since it has yellow stiching. Since the car is going to be red now, that won't work. Just not sure if I want to loose all the airbags, Ill probably do it.
