New ride height

Took the car to EVOMS this morning to have my PSS-9's adjusted to lower my C-2 to respectable ride height. It is now at 25 & 1/4. As well I had a engine protection plate installed. After looking at the new lowered height it became apparent that spacers and chrome lug nuts are a must. They will be installed next week which means another visit to EVOMS. Talk about a kid in a candy store.

It is a rare rainy day in Arizona so the car is a mess. Hopefully Todd's scans capture the new look.

very very nice

Hey Itzkirb what is that lip you have on your spoiler? As well i saw you were asking about x74 the other day to the Grey Ghost...go with H&R or PSS-9...much easier install the x-74 requires mods to the chassis.!

Marc

It's a GT3 front bumper and that lip came with the bumper. Really? Does the X74 require mods to the Chassis? I thought it was a factory suspension and nothing else was needed?

No wonder I like it so much love the GT3 bumper...just hard to tell with all the AM stuff out there...As I have heard for the X74 yes but everyone has another story, I just put in the H&R coilover as this is the factory set up in both the GT3 and GT2....the X74 usually has to be factory installed otherwise I have been told on 2 occassions it requires mods to the chassis, however I can not remember what and where...Use PSS9 or H&R easier and more readily avail as well with the Euro now buying from Gert is not a good option if this is where you were going to get it. I love the H&R the car is flat as a board and under breaking the front end stays nice and tight. I am not even using gt3 sway bars which would more so improve the handling and I am amazed..PS I like your car however I was reluctent to lower my car but once it is done it is a new car, as well if you dont have PSE GET IT!!! These are the real things every Porsche needs coilovers and PSE..all the other stuff we all do should come after that! IMHO....enjoy man I love this stuff@

i believe you are mistaken: the x74 only fits 02- and newer C2 or C4 coupes. these cars already are "reinforced" and thus can take the x74 aftermarket. no chassis mods are required that i know of.

MB996 I just emailed Gert the X74 is just shocks and springs the H&R is a true coilover setup IMHO this is the way to go for sure...!!!

Marc996Miami -

Just to be clear, I know what the X74 is, I have one on my '03, ordered it from Gert about 2 months ago.

There are a lot of suspension options and at least as many opinions.

My only point is that the X74 requires no "chassis reinforcement" that I know of for 02- and newer C2 and C4 coupes. At least not in the sense that the chassis is somehow welded as far as I know. The 02- and newer 996's are something like 20-25% stiffer from the factory. I had a '99 and I can tell the difference.

The X74 kit comes with front and rear swaybars and bushings, front and rear pre-assembled non-adjustable struts, as well as 2 small brackets which I believe translate as "reinforcements". I don't know where these are actually fit, since I didn't install the X74 myself and I haven't inspected underneath the car to see if I could tell where they went. I assumed they bolted into place somewhere but I could be wrong. My local dealer installed the X74 no problems at all. I think if significant additional work (e.g., welding) was required they would have let me know. If someone knows that aftermarket X74 installation aftermarket requires chassis welding or other non-bolt-on work please speak up.

I am very pleased with the X74. I think if you don't need adjustability it is perfect. I can not recommend it vs. RoWM030, PSS-9, H&R, .... as I have no experience with those. Everyone contemplating a suspension upgrade has to make their own choices based upon price, degree of adjustability, and other individual factors.

I'm glad you like your H&R setup. I think we can all agree that the base C2 US suspension leaves a lot to be desired. One other thing we agree on, the best 2 mods are a decent suspension and PSE.

Peace. Drive and be happy.

There are two small brackets/reinforcement pieces that are an optional install with the X74 to reinforce the rear tail light and quarter panel assemblies. My tech and I couldn't figure out where they were supposed to go and Gert said it was not necessary. They replace some crappy plastic pieces that some standard with the car.

If someone knows more on this I would like to know but I love the X74. I agree with MB996, it is a personal preference based on your driving demands and the applications in which the car will be driven. Analyze your needs, compair the products, consult your tech for his recommendations, and make the wise choice.
