Installing SSK tomorrow

Any advice on installing the B&M SSK on a C2? They give detailed instructions, but does anyone have tricks or warnings I should look out for?

It's going on my '99C2 with help of an ex mechanic friend.

Thanks,
Greg

yeahh put some masking tape underneath the e-brake, as you lift up on the center console it will have a tendency to scratch it (especially leather). Make sure you mark the shift cables. Straight forward install. Good luck!

It's easy. Possibly the hardest bit is cutting off the white bushes, a sharp utility knife helps.

When people say mark the cables I found that a Marks-alot marker does not do the job. I suggest a bright fingernail polish from your wifes cabinet. Coating the threads right up to block, so you can re-install the cables on the exact spot.

I used a marker and found that it didn't provide a fine enough mark to align the cables to when I was done. I would suggest wraping around a piece of tape.

The other bit of advice, when cutting the tabs off the old shifter to remove it, make sure you use a new sharp blade. This is probably the hardest part to do, don't get frustrated or worried about cutting the tabs.

One last thing, you might want to get a porsche shift lever alignment tool (at dealer for ~$5) and align the stock shifter before you take it out. Once you have replaced it with the B&M you will not be able to use the alignment tool (doesn't fit) That way your positioning will be perfect when done.

Good luck.

ditto on the ditching the marker. Use a nail polish or small dab of touch up paint.
on the Tab, I gave up on using a knife. Probably because my knife wasn't sharp enough or I'm too big of a chicken to cut myself. I end up using a plier and a cutter to chip away the clips.
good luck!! You'll love the difference the short shifter makes.
