Heart Transplant - Woe is me!

Well, my car went in for a pair of new front strut bearings last Monday. The dealer was greeted with this lovely sight first thing in the morning. Seems I do need some KTY litter!

Upon further investigation...a nice leak had begun overnight!

Being at the tolerance, heart transplant is in order. Here is my old engine being dropped...

Another angle, with my one month old transmission...

Here is a shot of the RMS (Black seal with holes)...see the accumulation of oil around the crankshaft bore? Nice! And if that isn't enough...you will note some coolant residue (slight porosity) in the casting around the bell housing. Even more nice!!

My shiney new engine!! With a born on date of January 19th, 2004, which is my birthday!!

I pick her up this afternoon, I can't wait!!!

PS Disclaimer: I posted this because I have some great pics to share, not to foster any sort of negative attitude torward Porsche or their cars. I love my car, and the service I get from my dealer is second to none, Porsche has taken good care of me.

The crankshaft was just at the tolerance for what is considered replaceable. It measured .28, the maximum out of round a crank can be is .30 (aka - concentricity). So, in that I was so close, and this was the second RMS leak, Porsche has replaced the engine in hopes that the new crank is ROUND/concentric!

man robyn, YOU must have the worst luck with porsche. i have a '99 that hasn't had any RMS leaks, concentricity probs.

i hope they give you a carrera loaner, but they shouldloan you a turbo, better yet a gt3 for all your problems.

Robyn, did they transfer the fabspeed bypass from old to new? Did they give you a hassle about it? From the looks of your pics and story I'd say no, but thought I would ask.

I got a cute little Boxster to drive during this gorgeous weather we have been having. So I am not complaining.

However, I think I will change my license plate to M96 KLLR.

Two more oil drops owed to the tat!

Jenner - Yes they transferred the bypass over. They'd have to, my exhausts are sitting in my garage at home.

20C4S - I thought that was uncanny. Perhaps my curse is now broken? If not, a trip to N'awlin's is in order to a Voodoo Priest/ess. (I have a rich history with Porsche oil leaks and engines)

01 C4... - Yes, break in all over again! I am going to LA for the weekend to play and that should put me in about 1000 miles. 1000 more to go after that and I'm ready for the track in April. What's next? Oh God please, don't ask!!!

Tough luck, Robyn. Glad everything worked out. Guess where mine has been in for a day and a half now for oil leak. No word yet. Oh well, I'm glad I didn't have an SC put on (which I was thinking about) ....

Sorry to hear about the problem. Pretty cool to see the engine out, ha?

About your drive to LA and back--I bought my Carrera in Beverly Hills and drove it back to the bay area. Good way to put on break-in miles, but keep in mind you should vary engine load, RPMs, etc, in addition to keeping to the RPM limit.

Porsche gave you a brand new 04 engine, not a bad deal at all. Let's hope this one lasts.
