01 Cab convertible top function question

The other I noticed that the car does something a bit strange when closing.. The hook tries to latch on but doesn't and then it tries the second time and grabs and at that point it closes... I took it to my indie mechanic for an oil change and he said that the top needs hydraulic fluid refill ($180) so that it will function correcty... Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Thanks in advance...

I can try posting a link with a video of what it does...

Having the exact same car as you...I can say my top does NOT do that. So something is wrong. When closing my top it is a very smooth action. The latch comes out hooks in and closes. PERIOD.

So...I dont know if it is the fluid etc..but it is not operating "normally." Sorry I am not much more help than verifying what you already know is wrong.

I was just curious if anyone else had ever had that issue in the past.

Thanks for the input...

Same ride here too...closes in a clean swoop.

Good luck troubleshooting.

Mine did that, and porsche is replacing the whole latch mechanism and control module. Could be a weak battery and it's resetting each time, which is simple, but if you need to do what I did you might cry at when the dealer makes you bend over! $1500+

spyderman33 - what ever came of this?
Have a 2001 996 Cab and it's doing a similar thing. But mine just keeps cycling to lock, then unlock, then tries to lock again, and never stops. the red dask light won't go out, so it never lets my rear windows up
