Non-turbo chips
Non-turbo chips
Hello Folks,
First time posting here....
Wondering if anyone has a chip running in their C2 or C4S who could provide feedback of how they like the chip. Also, which tuners would you recommend going through? TIA

AIG,
Just wondering if you had exhaust, headers, and intake done on your car. If not, perhaps you should wait till all these other goodies are installed. This way the chip that you plan to install can be programed with these upgrades in place. Otherwise you may have to program the chip again after these items are installed. At least that's what someone told me.
Please post a review once your chip is in. I'm also interested in this upgrade.....

I know fabspeed, fvd, roock and few other tuners offer a chip upgrade for 3.4l 996. haven't done the upgrade myself; still looking and want to get feed back from someone that has prior to spending the money.
i am currently looking @ piggy back chip so that the oem chip will not be remove or send in to be reprogram.
most importantly, does it really give the added hp?
pls keep us posted if you decide to get one, if it works and trouble free i 'll get one.

My reason for even debating getting one...
A friend of mine is good friends with a tuner who is basically looking to use my car in order to mass-produce their 3.6L chip. I will get a multi-mode chip and an intake in return for being the guineapig and some dyno-runs. What do you guys think?
Also, should I be worried about any trouble from the dealer regarding warranty over a chip? Coming from an Audi which I just replaced, the debate over chips was a hotly debated one and the case for many warranties being denied. I do NOT want to run into a similar situation here.

I worry that your friend-of-a-friend is going to beat the hell out of your car on the dyno and hopefully not blow it up or sieze it up during testing. Maybe you know the guy but I'd be careful, you know what happens to guinea pigs in the lab after testing....
Running Away From That Deal
Are they willing to replace your engine and anything else that goes wrong w/ the car due to their testing? if not, then the chip in return is not worth it. Tell them to go rent a 996 and do the testing on it.

Honestly guys, my biggest concern isn't with the tuner but moreso with the Porsche service and warranty. As I learned with my Audi, it usually comes down to the right service advisor on just how much they'll let pass in the way of mods. My biggest concern is voiding the warranty on such a car.
As for the tuner's reputation, he does very high end work, having tuned several 993 and 996 TT's with no problem and even some custom programming for something as rare as a 959. So I know the quality is there and I don't have any issues with him tuning the car to safe levels. Furthermore, usually on NA cars, chiptuning doesn't make a significant difference. In which case, if I were only going to get like 10 extra hp, I'd say no thanks. For some reason, the gains in the 993 chip are around 30hp and 30 lb/ft torque which is a pretty nice jump!
At this point, I haven't even broken the car in all the way, so if I decide to pull the trigger I will do so after about 2-3k miles on the car after I've had a chance to open it up a bit before throwing it up on the dyno. Will keep all of you posted, but if this is a go, hopefully it will pave the way for others seeking to get more power out of their 3.6 motors
