Yet another newbie, and what I'm thinking about

HI!
I've been lurking a bit over the past couple months, then finally got a username, and since I am getting close to picking up a dream car; I thought that I should start getting to know ya'll. I'm a Porsche newbie living in Atlanta. I am making the transition from Ducati's to Porsche, which seems like a semi-smart thing considering that I have a two year old daughter.

The username is because I teach Brazilian Juijitsu and have a couple schools, we also have some competitive fighters, blah blah blah.

At any rate, it appears as though my entre into the Porsche world will be via an 04 40th Anniversary Edition 996, #445. This thing has just over 17k miles, not a scratch on it. The owner has added the navigation system, in car phone (does that really work well? cause I like that option...), and there is a chip in the car that bumped the power up to 380hp and change. It also has a GT ground effects kit. He's even throwing in an un-used set of his/her Porsche luggage, and a great car cover. Not to mention the car still smells new. The only repair done on the car was a battery replacement because it sat for so long due to the owner have back surgery, which is also the reason he is selling the car; and getting into a Cayenne. Asking price, $59k.

Sound like a decent deal to you guys?

As much as I like the car, would it detract from the value if I replaced the wheels? I like the polished magnesium, but I really like some of the black wheels I've seen. Since the car is Silver, I think that new wheels are needed to dress it up. And I'm just sure that new wheels will make it go faster too... Gotta rationalize everything!

I'll look forward to seeing ya'll around!

theres a guy on here selling a 40th ed, pricey though https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...th+anniversary, I doubt that he got an extra 35hp with a chip flash, the nav is a plus but try to get the original radio, 17miles is brand new...sounds like a good deal... if you like special ed, like I do, though the TT or a c4s is a great buy at that price, look into that arena as well, Id get the TT

Welcome chokeu2... I'm a huge MMA fan, welcome to the board! My opinion though about the car, it sounds like a good car for the price, but why not chuck in another $5 or $10K and purchase an 01 or 02 twin turbo? When you go to tune that engine, you will have endless options for speed... just a bit limited on a NA engine; comming from your background, and the Ducatti, I'll vote for the Turbo

Welcome

For 59K I'd spend another 5-6 and get a turbo. I've seen plenty of them at 65K. How important is it for you to get an anniversary model? I also agree with Redridge about the flash adding 35 hp. Highly unlikely. If he persists, ask for a dyno chart to back up the claim. If you decide to get it make sure you get a prepurchase inspection and go with what your heart and mind say.

Great feedback guys, thanks for helping out the newb...

Turbo eh... You're right in saying that coming from Ducati's, I love the performance of an engine, but I've just always been wary of Turbo's. I like the notion of naturally aspirated power.

I'm not completely sold on it just because its an anniversary model however.

I am surprised to hear that a chip wouldn't bump the power by 30+ hp, but chock that up to ignorance. I have much to learn coming from bikes. Oh, and an Audi S4... That Audi is where I have seemed to develop a desire for a naturally aspirated engine.

The guy I may get it from, wouldn't be offended if I asked for a dyno chart actually. He's got really great records, so I wouldn't be totally surprised if he had a dyno chart.

Thanks again!

You don't want to hear it again but.....save an extra 10k for a TT. They are fast enough stock to satisfy you more than a few rides and they are tunable for real power. I made the mistake to drive one and this is what I am saving for

Hmmm...I did not consider enough variables...996 TT pricing is completely insane...it is worth a test drive and some consideration in light of the circumstances...I miss mine...

Ask him who make the chip and let us know what he says about the dyno.
