OK...so I just watched F&F Tokyo Drift....and while the cahse scenes were very cool...I found it unrealistic to think that drifting is actually a faster way to get from point A to B....so for you drifting experts is it actually faster, or was it just for show?

sometimes it can be.. because say you are going 90+ mph and you cant realistically take the turn that fast you can let the momentum (or use the ebrake) to get the rear end out and then go thru the turn and not lose as much speed.. .

but if you put a drifting car vs a race car on a real track.. yeah drifting would NOT be the winner. .
:shrugs:

buuuut in a real life chase.. i dunno. . dont believe anyhing that happens in any more with the words fast and furious.. dumb *** movies.. entertaining. but stupid.. imho..

In my mind it'd be slower because you're just making the rears spin instead of grabbing the pavement

Yeah I didnt beleive it...I have been around race tracks all my life, and usually the idea is not to drift too much....just funny how they did it even when they were shooting or being shot at....I thought those cars with the HP and mods would have been faster just driving and using good lines....

Sideways is slower.. You are scrubbing off speed in a drift.

Smooth is fast ... Its all about corner speed and transitions from corner to corner..

While a sideways slide does look cool , it is rarely if ever the fast way..

Just my .02.

Drifting can be faster in low traction issues like on snow, ice or gravel.
But not always. Never faster to drift on ashfault but it does look pretty slick when done well.

What about the WRC guys? They not only drift on a blind curve,(which is ever curve) they also jump on a blind hill. I think drifting dumb, and nascar too!

for movies you need all the excitement you can get and with drifting being hot now, it just adds to that.

When they drift around a blind curve it's usually because it's faster. Same goes for the jump on the blind hill, if they would slow down and not jump, they'd lose a lot of speed and time.

So do you guys think it's better to rob trucks by pulling them over to the side of the road or by climbing up on the truck on a rope hanging from a tricked out Civic?
