New Key

I have purchased a new key from an online vendor. According to the dealer it is the correct key but they say I need a 24 digit code tht will allow the key to "talk" to the car (and only Atlanta/Porsche can do this). The vendor says I dont need the code that the dealer can just "clone" the key. Any suggestions as to who is correct? Thanks

I think "cloning" means that the dealer takes the 24 digit code and puts it in the new key. They both mean the same thing, but the vendor thinks that the dealer suggest you change the code. But that's just how i understood it.

Same thing, the key may have a different code if it's used or blank if it's new, either way it need to be programmed by a Pcar dealer. Will cost you some $$$ or you can switch chips and capsules but you have to be careful as that capsule "immoblizer" if it breaks then you're screwed.

I don't see why not, if you don't have the original key tag then the dealer should be able to get easily.

Key

The dealer says the key can be cut but without the 24 digit code the key is unusable. It doesnt seem to be a matter of getting the key code. He says the key needs to be ordered from Porsche so the key is shipped to him with the key already ready for my car and he just programs what the key should do. The online vendor says this is not true. I am really confused. Sorry if I am repetative but I am not really understanding this whole thing. $375 for a key and 140.00 to cut and code seems a little rediculous and I am afraid I am getting the run around from the dealer in order to force me to buy the key from him. Thanks

From what I understand, they will Need the code specifically assigned to the particular key, to program the key.
If you buy it from ebay, or anyone, without the original code, then you are screwed.

I bought a new key from the dealer last year, with programming, it was like $300-something out the door. Btw...they couldn't program my key right!

Some dealers might program the key for you even if you bought it elsewhere with the code,
but there are some who will refuse to do it for you if you don't get it thru' them.
